NEWS

Our CT Rescue license number: AIR-000109

Please be aware that as of Oct 1, 2011 all CT based rescues are now supposed to be licensed if they import dogs from any other state outside our borders. If they are not licensed and are adopting out dogs then they are doing this illegally. All dogs should come with a Health Certificate prior to adopting them. It is your responsibility as an adopter to be aware and report any thing you feel is not on the up and up to the CT State Dept of Agriculture.

*******AS OF OCT 1st our adoption fees are going to increase due to the new CT State Rescue Law that will require us to have extra vet visits even after all our dogs are already vetted completely from our sending shelters and rescues. WIth this new law our fees will increase to $300.00 per dog as we are required to bring the dogs to the vet within 48 hours of arriving in the state which will add the cost of an office visit and new health certificate to our expenses. This will be anyhwere from $65-$85. per dog on this end after already obtaining a health certificate 10 days prior to arriving. Since our rescue already absorbs a big part of the expenses prior to adoption we just cannot continue in this manner and still stay in the rescue business. Please visit the CT Dept of Agriculture website to read about this new law : http://www.cga.ct.gov/2011/ACT/PA/2011PA-00187-R00HB-05368-PA.htm

How you can help:

We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us we are in need of MEDUIM sized dog beds or cat beds only at this time. Please do not order the covers for our beds as we cannot use them as some dogs will eat them. click here.

Friends of Mansfield Animal Shelter Adoption Procedures:

Must fill out application form completely including a vet reference and phone number (without your vet's number it will slow down your application process). If you do not have a current vet you must provide (3) personal references of non-family members.

All potential adoptions do require a home visit by a member of our respected rescue community. There are no exceptions to this rule.

If you live on a busy street, you will be required to have conventional fencing of at least 4 ft in height. This means chain link or stockade type fencing (no invisible fence, stone walls or post and rail)

We do have policies on certain dogs with children - please read each dogs individual write up for more information. This policy is in place for the safety of both the dogs and the children.

You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt a dog from us.

YOU MUST FILL OUT THE APPLICATION BEFORE VISITING THE ANIMAL OF INTEREST. This process can take up to two weeks. We appreciate your patience. We are all volunteers with real jobs, foster dogs, fundraising activities and family lives. Please only fill out an application if you are serious about adopting. Please email us to request an application.

Who We Are

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on helping the animals at the town municipal pound in Mansfield, CT. We raise money in efforts of helping the pets at the shelter have a better life while they are waiting for a new, loving home. Our goal in the future is to see the shelter improved by rebuilding or renovation.

Adopting A Friend

We also have a very small program of rescue dogs that are privately fostered by area homes. We have an occasionally pup or two that is rescued from a kill shelter in another area or state. We have an adoption process that includes application, interview, vet reference, home visits and then finally meeting the animal. Otherwise our main focus is to get the dogs from our local pound into new homes....you can see the available dogs at the shelter: Mansfield Animal Shelter
