Our Featured Pets...

Our featured dog is "Jasper." At 18 months old, Jasper would make a perfect family pet. He loves kids and gets along well with other dogs. Click on his photo to get the full story on this wonderful dog.

Our Mission -

  • To find quality homes for the adoptable dogs from our local city and county animal shelters.
  • To work directly with families needing to rehome their dogs so that these dogs don't end up at a shelter, facing euthanasia.
  • To educate the public on the need to spay or neuter their pets, to help reduce pet overpopulation.
  • To be advocates for domestic pets at the local and state levels.

PROJECT HUSKY-MIX RESCUE - UPDATE

On Thursday, December 7, we learned that over 20 dogs were rescued from a local ranch after being abandoned by their derelict owner. These dogs were tow-chained to their dog houses almost all the time. When they were abandoned, they were left with no food or water. Worst of all, none had been properly socialized.

All of the dogs were removed from the property by animal control officers and sheltered at animal shelters in Winnemucca, Battle Mountain and Lovelock.

Now the job reamins to get them ready for adoption. That means socialization. We desperately need foster families to work with these dogs, to make the ready for forever homes. If you would like to be that foster family, PLEASE CALL US TODAY AT 775-625-4356. We will provide veterinary services, food, supplies, etc. You supply the love and understanding.

UPDATE - Most of these dogs found new adoptive homes. But, a small number were so badly undersocialized that Animal Control officers were left no other choice than to humanely euthanize them. To all those who helped to turn this horrible situation around, we say THANK YOU.

FOSTER HOMES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Although we are working toward our long term goal of building a full-service animal shelter, until then we are working to save lives with foster families and homes willing to take a dog or cat in until a new forever home can be found.

If you have pet experience, and room in your heart and home, please call so that we can give you the details on how you can make a difference. We supply veterinary services, food and supplies. You supply the love. Please phone us at 775-625-4356.

News

FOCCAS attends Poochie Palace Boutique Grand Opening

FOCCAS helped a new pet-related Winnemucca business get off the ground at it's grand opening on Saturday, December 15. Poochie Palace Boutique, located at 60 W. Fourth Street. The new business features pet accessories, and suppplies. Our volunteers staffed an information table, as well as bought an adoptable dog. The new owners have made a commitment to support rescue organizations.

The event was well attended, and perhaps the best news, for FOCCAS, was the adoption of "Sasha", a sweet 12-week old Golden Lab/Chow-Chow puppy.

Spay and Neuter Assistance Available

Winnemucca and Humboldt County residents did you know there is help available to get your dog or cat spayed or neutered? The City of Winnemucca and Humboldt County along with our local veterinarians provide vouchers to offset some of the cost of a spay or neuter.

If you need to spay or neuter your dog or cat, just bring it's current rabies vaccination certificate to the police/sheriff information desk, located inside the courthouse at 25 W. 5th Street, Winnemucca. The friendly staff will issue a discount voucher ($25 for spays and $15 for neuters). Give the voucher to the local veterinarian performing the procedure to collect the discount.
