Who We Are
We are a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status. There is no shelter in our county and no full-time vet. We are volunteers working to keep Jackson County pet-friendly and help reduce the population of unwanted animals through spaying/neutering and education. We encourage all pet owners to have their pets spayed or neutered! Our focus is reducing the unwanted pet population through prevention and we've helped over 2350 animals to date, including 599 in 2007, 641 in 2008, and 502 in 2009. Our goal is more than 500 in 2010.
What this really means is the prevention of over 2,000 unwanted kittens and puppies in the past year alone. Those are the numbers that count!
We cannot fix all the animal problems in Jackson County, but we can fix all the animals!
If you are a Jackson County resident and would like financial assistance to have your pet spayed or neutered, please call 268-1866.
As resources permit, we also rescue the abandoned puppies and kittens found in our county and transfer to other rescues or have them spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Our foster animals don't have expiration dates and won't be put down just because we've had them for awhile. We do keep adoption fees low to encourage adoptions in order to make room in foster homes for more rescues. To date, we've helped over 400 happy dogs and cats find homes!
Adopting a friend
We will require you to sign a contract and wait for a vet appointment to have the animal spayed/neutered if it is not already altered. Most of our dogs are mixed breeds, medium or large sized, with very limited specific information available on the parentage. Our adoption fees for cats are $50-100 and for dogs, $75-150. This is the total cost, with no additional fees or charges. We do offer discounts on a second pet. Fees are largely dependent on the range of vet costs associated with getting that animal healthy and adoptable. Vet records are provided for each animal at time of adoption.
All animals are wormed, current on vaccines (including rabies) and stay on flea/tick prevention while in foster care.
Our cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia prior to adoption.
Our adult dogs are tested for heartworms. Dogs over 6 months of age are on heartworm prevention while in foster care.
We are able to arrange meetings in the Nashville area very easily for interested parents there!
We also do courtesy postings of fixed animals that need new homes and we are not involved in those adoptions, except for posting the pets on our website. All of those animals are spayed/neutered.

We do not have a shelter facility and use foster homes to care for animals awaiting adoption.
Fostering can be hard work, but it is very rewarding! Call 268-1866 if you'd like more information.
Your tax-deductible donations can be sent to the address below with checks payable to "Friends of Animals". Our vet bills are our main expense and with your contributions, we can continue to save abandoned puppies and kittens and spay/neuter more pets in the county.
We gladly accept donations made in honor or memory of someone or a pet. We will send an acknowledgement to the donor and the honoree.
We thank you for your support!
