White River Animal Rescue

White River Animal Rescue is a private rescue, not a shelter. We do not have an actual physical location other than our foster homes which are located all over the New England area. We provide but are not limited to providing the following services: Placement and adoption of abandoned dogs and puppies. Vaccination, microchipping, and other necessary veterinary care.Rescue is not a "service". We are not obligated to do it. We are volunteers, not paid employees. You are not doing us a "favor" by adopting one of the animals we rescued and rehabilitated, we are entrusting you to take care of that animal that we have cared for and loved. Please don't make demands, we take time away from our families, our animals, our paid jobs, our lives, ALL THE TIME, to do what we are so passionate about. Our families complain. Sometimes our responsibilities are not prioritized. Please be patient. We wish we could respond to you faster. Rescue is not only about passion, but time and money. How do you think the animals get to the vet? To adoption events? Who do you think feeds them, buys their food, litter, toys, leashes and bathes them, cleans their litterboxes, and shows them affection? How do you think we pay for vet care? Please don't balk at a measly adoption donation when we put our ALL into these animals, making sure they are healthy, and doing our best to find them a forever home, such as yours. Don't try to guilt us into doing more. We are NOT responsible for everyone else's messes. We already do more than we can or should, trust me. After all, we are human, just like you, trying to do the best we can, with lives and bills and problems just like everyone else. Work with us. Help us when you can. Crosspost, volunteer, foster, donate ..
Please do your homework before adopting a rescue dog or puppy. Dogs/puppies are work. Rescue dogs are not perfect. They are MOST often not obedience trained, not housebroken, not socialized well. Please note: WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL SHELTER. Our animals are in foster homes throughout Vermont, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Appointments are necessary to meet the animals. We at White River Animal Rescue believe that the adoption of a dog or puppy is a COMMITMENT and, once adopted, is a member of the family. Although not pleasant, we do have the right to deny any application, and you must be 25 years or older to adopt from us. All adoptions are made at the discretion of WRAR, and an adoption may be denied at the staff’s discretion.
Our adoption donation is $450. In order to continue to rescue and re-home all the dogs and puppies that our rescue saves, we need to have an adoption donation fee. If you wish to participate in rescuing a dog, please try to understand why we need to have an adoption donation fee. We are a non-profit organization dependent upon these fees as well as any and all donations in order to continue our rescue efforts. The adoption donation fee includes transportation and veterinarian fees. Many of the dogs we rescue have required some more extensive veterinary care, boarding or special transportation arrangements. Every penny we make on these fees is spent on rescuing other dogs, most of whom are scheduled for euthanasia when we step in. Sometimes it is costly, but it is worth it. Ask us about some of our success stories!
Our dogs and puppies are in foster homes throughout Vermont, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Some may be awaiting transport to us from another location. Please contact us for information on specific dogs or to schedule a visit.
