Our Featured Pet...

Meet Hank Jr!

Hank Junior is a ball of energy and full of people love. Hank Jr. loves to play in the yard with balls or anything he can pick up in his mouth and play keep-away with. He lights up when people come around and just wants his belly scratched. Hank Jr actually sleeps on his back like a person - we think just in case someone would happen to want to scratch his tummy!! Please give him a chance!! Click on the picture above to learn more......

Would you like to help us save more Furry Kids?

Since June of 2004, Furry Kids has saved more than 900 dogs and cats from area kill shelters. Most of their vet care has been paid for by our dedicated volunteers and those bills add up! Furry Kids recently became a 501(c)(3) Federal Not For Profit!! Please help us celebrate by helping to sponsor a Furry Kid!
Would you like to help save a shelter dog or cat? For a mere tax deductible $60, you can save a life! That small amount will spay or neuter, vaccinate and heartworm test a rescued dog or cat. If you can sponsor one of these wonderful companion animals so deserving of a forever home, we will send you a picture and description of the animal you saved. If you’d like to help, please mail a check and a note specifying whether you'd like to save a dog or cat to the address below and you’ll hear back from us soon about the companion animal you’ve saved!
Furry Kids' Refuge

We are always looking for foster homes and volunteers!!!!! If you can help, please contact Kim at 816-699-3238. We can always use items such as food, blankets and towels, crates, cat litter and litter boxes, toys, collars, leashes....Your donations are always appreciated!!!!!

Who We Are

We are a group of individuals who work with other groups and shelters to save innocent pets from euthanization. Most shelters are overflowing with too many animals. This means many animals will be euthanized. For this reason, we are in continuous rotation of foster animals within our own homes. Due to lack of space and finances we can only save what our homes will hold. These pets are given temporary homes until we can find them a forever home. We also promote low cost spray and neutering.

Adopting a friend

By adopting one, you are actually saving two! Your adoption allows us to save another life.
A new companion requires a lot of time and attention. Please consider the following things before you adopt. We have a two week trial adoption period to ensure everyone's happiness.

  • What do you know about the breed of the companion you like and is it right for your lifestyle?
  • How will this dog or cat be with your children? If you don't have children, will this dog or cat still be welcome in your home when you do?
  • Do you have the time and patience required to train and care for a puppy or kitten properly?
  • Dogs and cats will live for many, many years - what will your lifestyle be like 10 years from now and will a dog or cat still fit into your life?
  • Dogs need lots of exercise to lead happy, healthy lives, how will you exercise your new companion?
  • We believe all dogs and cats should live indoors with the family, will your new companion be welcome in your home?
  • Do you have the financial resources to provide for both routine and emergency veterinary care?

  • An estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year. That's one about every six and one half seconds.

It costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $2 billion each year to round up, house, kill and dispose of homeless animals.

Over 56% of dogs and puppies entering shelters are killed, based on reports from over 1,055 facilities across America.

Approximately 71% of cats and kittens entering shelters are killed, based on reports from 1,055 facilities across America.
