Adoption Process
If you are interested in one of Wendy's cats or kittens (she usually has kittens), please call her directly at 804-224-1079 (between 8 am - 9 pm Eastern time zone). She has an answering machine if she is out and will return long-distance calls the same day they are received. She can be reached every day, Sunday through Saturday. She can also be reached by e-mail, but prefers to talk over the telephone. She knows each of the cats and kittens individually and can help match you up with the perfect feline friend. She will want you to come to her house so she can meet you, and you can meet all the cats. Wendy's Feline Friends receives no funding from anyone. The shelter survives strictly on donations from the public. Suggested donation for a unfixed kitten is $75, which helps cover baby/booster shots, leukemia & AIDS testing, flea treatment and worming (with the understanding that the cat will be fixed by a certain date). Fixed cats with a current rabies vaccination are available for a suggested donation of $125. When adopting from Wendy, if for any reason it is not a perfect match, you may bring the child home and try another if you wish.

How You Can Help!
Caregivers are needed to help with cat work, yard work, and/or house work every day between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Volunteers of any age are welcome! Please call Wendy at 224-1079 to learn how you can help the homeless cats and kittens of Westmoreland County. Wendy is also looking for volunteers to offer special foster care to needy cats: tiny kittens who must be bottle-fed, adults recovering from major surgery, very shy or scared surrendered cats who need extra attention. Please call her if you can help.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Wendy's Feline Friends accepts tax-deductible donations. Chlorox bleach, mouthwash, paper towels, large baskets and old bath towels come in very handy. The cats are always asking for more catnip, powered kitten replacement milk, cat trees, and Bio-spot flea treatments. Wendy very much welcomes aluminum cans and cash/check/PayPal donations toward her substantial veterinary bills. If you would like to sponsor one of our specific cats or kittens, call for further information.

About Wendy's Feline Friends
Westmoreland County Shelter does not provide services for cats, but Wendy does take in adoptable cats and kittens. All cats listed on this site have been free-living in a home setting (with lots of other cats plus two large dogs and children), including a fully enclosed outdoor exercise area. All of Wendy's cats receive complete veterinary care and are FeLV negative. Adults are up to date on shots and are spayed or neutered upon arrival. Wendy will tell you what care kittens still require upon adoption. Wendy knows the personality of each intimately and is excellent at matching the right person with the right feline friend. She also has friendly, healthy, sterlized cats who choose to stay outdoors and would be perfect barn cats.

Fees
Cats & kittens fostered by Wendy receive full vet care, including FeLV/FIV testing, vaccinations, worming, sterilization, and anything else required to maintain health. The vet that will work with Wendy is 25 miles away. All of the low-cost spay-neuter options listed below are even further away, and not having volunteer transportation, she must pay regular clinic prices for spay-neuter and FeLV testing. Wendy's monthly balance there generally exceeds $15,000. Wendy therefore requests a donation to help offset her vet bills.

Come Visit Us!

Westmoreland County is in the beautiful, rural Northern Neck of Virginia. As you can see on the Mapquest map, Wendy is located just a couple blocks from the Potomac River. Wendy's Feline Friends is about 1 hour from the Fredericksburg area, 1.5-2 hours from the DC area or the Richmond area, and about 2 hours from the Tidewater region. Follow your favorite highway on the map until you see Route 3 (east-west) and/or Route 301 (north-south) to get your bearings.

If coming from the North, take Route 301 South across the Potomac River ($3.00 bridge toll driving south across the Harry Nice Memorial Bridge). If you prefer to take I-95 South, see the next set of directions for an alternative travel route. At the 3rd traffic light after the bridge, turn left onto Route 218 heading toward Colonial Beach. About six miles down Route 218 you will come to a stop sign at a T. Turn right. This is still Route 218. Drive 1.5 miles to the next stop sign at another T. This is Route 205. Turn left, go about 200 yards and make the second possible right onto Longfield Road (VA Route 631). About five miles down Longfield Road you will come to another stop sign at a T. Don't get confused, this is again Route 205. Turn left, go about 100 yards and make the first right onto Stoney Knoll (VA Route 628). About 1.5 miles down Stoney Knoll you will come to a fork in the road. Bear right at this fork onto Holly Vista Drive (VA Route 633).

If coming from the South, West or East (or if you prefer to drive south on I-95), take Route 3 (either east from Fredericksburg or west from Warsaw) to Route 205 in Oak Grove. There is a traffic light and Shell Station at this intersection as well as a Century 21 building. Turn north toward Colonial Beach on Route 205 (either left if driving from the West or right if driving from the East). Two miles down Route 205 you will turn right onto Stoney Knoll (VA Route 628), across from a self-storage facility and the Colonial Beach Dragway. About 1.5 miles down Stoney Knoll you will come to a fork in the road. Bear right at this fork onto Holly Vista Drive (VA Route 633).

Once on Holly Vista Drive, you will pass through a residential area, curve around a church, and continue on to 1228 Holly Vista Drive. Wendy's Feline Friends will be on your right, just past Alta Vista Drive. She has a large floral painted mailbox (purple, blue, green), cement driveway, one-story white house, fenced side yard. Come to the door facing the driveway.
