Most of our dogs and cats are now being housed at Animal Harbor, although some are in foster homes. Our colleague organization, the Sewanee Animal Rescue League (SARL), merged with us in 2003 to join in the operation of our new shelter, which serves all of Franklin County.
Our Circle Donor Program
The Franklin County Humane Society invites you to join with us to make Franklin County a better place in which to live, for both people and animals. We solicit donors in our Circle Donor Program to help provide continuous funding for our work. The FCHS has placed over 2,500 abandoned pets since our shelter opened in February 2003 through November 2008. Our costs to get pets ready for adoption (food, spaying and neutering, all shots, and any necessary tests, medications or treatments) far exceed our adoption fees. We have also had to add paid staff as we increase our services to the county through a new subsidized spay/neuter program for low-income residents and an educational program for the schools. We need your help as we continue to rescue and place more and more abandoned pets and to expand our services to the county. Here is how you can help:
Donor Circles:
Platinum Circle: $250/month or $3,000 annually
Gold Circle: $150/month or $1,800 annually

Adopting a Friend
We require a signed adoption contract and a fee to adopt a pet. The normal adoption fees are: puppies $85, dogs $75, kittens $75, and cats $65. For purebreds or highly desirable breed mixes we will charge $100 or more to offset our charging less for a breed mix that is more difficult to place. For example, a Cocker Spaniel's $100 fee will help us let a big black dog go to a loving home for less than $75.
We can only accept checks written on banks that operate in Franklin County, Tennessee. Otherwise, we request that the adoption fee be paid in cash. All of our pets are vet checked. They are given age-appropriate shots and spayed or neutered before adoption. Adult dogs are tested for heartworms and put on heartworm preventive. Cats are tested for FeLV and FIV, then given preventive innoculations. All of our pets are given rabies shots when they are old enough. They are all also treated with Frontline to prevent flea infestation.
Our Wish List
· Cat litter
· HE (high efficiency) laundry detergent
· Thick paper towels
· Clorox bleach
· Kong Pet Toys
· Volunteers to help with office work at Animal harbor
· Volunteers to socialize dogs and cats at Animal Harbor
· More foster homes for our rescued pets
· Day Fosters for Dogs: We are working on socializing our dogs by exposing them to different people and different surroundings. Some of our dogs have grown up at Animal Harbor and they are uncomfortable outside the shelter environment. We would love to have volunteers who would take a dog for a few hours or a day, let the dog ride in a vehicle, take the dog walking, introduce the dog to strangers, etc., then bring the dog back to Animal Harbor after the day's outing.
Note: We do not need pet food because we are in the Science Diet Shelter program and Science Diet provides our food.
