The New River Humane Society, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable, humane organization committed to control the dog/cat population through spaying and neutering; to ensure all animals are treated with dignity and respect and free from owner abuse; and to provide them with a warm, caring home for resident's locally and out-of-state. The goals of the New River Humane Society, Inc. are that each dog and cat receives the undivided attention of every shelter staff, volunteer, and veterinarians, from grooming and health/fitness to one-on-one contact by way of walking, talking, and petting; and to educate the public on the effects of animal abuse and neglect.
The New River Humane Society, Inc. was founded in July of 1999 and has maintained the daily operation of the local animal shelter known as the Fayette County Animal Control Center, located in Beckwith, West Virginia (just 7 miles outside of Fayetteville). The animal shelter is funded by the county government but monetary donations are always needed, appreciated and tax deductible.
Other donations and contributions are needed as well such as, cleaning supplies, dog, cat, puppy and kitten food (canned and dry), kitty litter, towels, rags, sheets, blankets, stainless steel bowls, leashes, collars, treats, toys, etc. Should you wish to become a volunteer, make a donation or adopt a pet, please call the phone number listed below. All pets are in need of a forever home.
**New River Humane Society, Inc. wishes to announce that a bank of twelve new cat cages have been purchased and installed at the Fayette County Animal Control Center to replace three wooden ones. This has been made possible through a grant from Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, Ruth Hornbrook Memorial Fund and the support of the citizens of Fayette County. They have helped in the past and we wish to thank them for supporting our efforts to care for the animals put in our charge.** **New River Humane Society, Inc. is announcing that the low-income spay/neuter program has resumed. Please call 304-574-2105 and request an application. Also, we will spay or neuter any animal adopted from the shelter. These programs are available as long as there are funds available. Please call and take advantage of these programs, do not continue to permit unwanted litters. **
