News The Emporia Animal Shelter strives to unite pets with their owners or adopting pets out to good homes. We encourage the public to visit the shelter. -----On 3/17/05, a pound fund was set up with The Emporia Animal Hospital to assist in paying for needed medical procedures, at a reduced rate, on animals prior to adoption. All donations that are offered to the shelter are directed to the Emporia Animal Hospital (POUND FUND). Since the opening of this fund, money has been donated to assist in paying for testing, check-ups, needed medications and treatment. This fund ensures that the animals are in good condition before being adopted and also gives the opportunity to give the adoptive parents a health record on the animal and encourages them to keep all check-ups and immunizations up to date. This program, however, does not pay for any after-care, including pain medication and follow-up visits. We are very proud of the efforts of Dr. Tom Grenell, Nancy and Joey Turner for making the POUND FUND available. ***We also wish to thank the Emporia Walmart for their efforts in assisting our shelter.

Who We Are

We are the Emporia Animal Shelter. Our hours are Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm. For best results, make an appointment.

Adopting a friend

The Emporia Animal Shelter has dogs and cats available for adoption. By State Law, anyone who adopts a dog or cat shall spay or neuter their new pet. Any animal adopted that is under the age of six months will have until the animal is six months old to have the animal sterilized. Animals that are six months old or older, the new owner has thirty days to have the sterilization performed by a local veterinarian. Some animals that meet weight and size criteria may require sterilization prior to six months. We handle our adoption process or transfer the animal to a Humane Organization.
