Before an animal may be adopted, an adoption application must be filled out 24 hours in advance, and the applicant must sign a written statement agreeing to have the animal surgically spayed or neutered by a licensed veterinarian within the time period stated on the Adoption Agreement Form as required by K.S.A 47-1731. We do adopt to out-of-staters, but it is the sole responsibility of the adopters to find transportation for the adopted pet. What does URGENT mean on petfinder listings? Unfortunately, it means the animal's life is in direct dangers. They have been here for an extended period of time, and we have more animals in the back needing their opportunity to find a home. If there is anyway you would be interested in an URGENT animal, contact the shelter as soon as possible!

The City of Emporia Animal Shelter is a division of the Emporia Police Department and is funded by the City of Emporia. However, we do accept donations of pet care supplies, towels, blankets, pet foods, treats, toys, and chews. Any monetary donations will be accepted and used to help ensure the comfort and well-being of our animals as well as the purchasing of vaccinations for all cats and dogs.
