DID YOU KNOW!

Did you know that the Humane Society of the United States DOES NOT FUND your local Humane Society Shelter? Well, that is a fact. HSUS does not fund local shelters with donations sent by you. Please consider the effects of sending your donation to an organization outside of your community. The money you sent does not help the poor little dog down the street whose owner moved away and left it behind. Your money doesn’t help the little stray kitten you saw at your local grocery store huddled in the corner near the dumpster. Your money doesn’t help the starving horse that law enforcement had to seize from its owner to save its life that your shelter has to rehabilitate. Your money is being used where you sent it….

Please consider keeping your hard earned money, that you want to donate to a very worthy cause, in your own neighborhoods and communities. Donate to the Caloosa Humane Society, who serves both Glades and Hendry County. Whose goal is to end the suffering of that little dog left behind, that little kitten desperately searching for trash to eat, that painfully thin horse. Remember the Caloosa Humane Society in your prayers, in your final plans, in your grocery shopping list. Donate at home!

The shelter will be closed for surgery March 12th, 17th and 26th for spay neuter surgery. Volunteers needed!

The Caloosa Humane Society’s spay neuter clinic offers low-cost services for the public. The fees are as follows: Cat spays or neuters are now $50.00. Dogs weighing less than 50 lbs are now $65.00. Dogs weighing between 50 lbs and 70 lbs are now $80.00. We are not equipped to handle dogs weighing over 70 lbs. Rabies vaccines are $10.00 and the 4 in 1 vaccines are $5.00.

We do not handle, nor accept, stray animals. Stray animals must be released to your local Animal Control agency who will attempt to locate the owner. If the owner is not found within the mandated stray period, which ranges from 3 to 5 days, the animal may be transferred to the humane society to be placed for adoption.

As always, we do not handle, nor accept, dogs or cats from outside of our service area of Glades and Hendry Counties.

We will not be able to accept dogs or cats that are not adoptable by the policies set forth by the Board of Directors, the Executive Director, our Animal Behavior assessment specialists and extensive research. We will, however, be able to advise you and / or refer you to other organizations who may be able to assist you.

There is a mandatory fee for releasing dogs and cats to the shelter to help with the ever increasing cost of care provided to each animal. The fees for releasing animals to the shelter are as follows: $20.00 per cat. $40.00 per dog. $50.00 for a litter of kittens. $100.00 for a litter of puppies. If you are unable to pay the release fee we will be able to advise you and / or refer you to other organizations who may be able to assist you

~Feedback request! We are asking for your feedback to better serve Hendry and Glades County residents. Please e-mail your suggestions, complaints, praises or comments to caloosahsfeedback@yahoo.com . Your input is greatly appreciated!

LOW-COST SPAY / NEUTER! Our shelter also has a spay neuter clinic for the public! We surgically alter cats and dogs 2 to 6 times per month by schedule. Prices are very affordable.

FEES FOR SPAY NEUTER SURGERY….$50.00 for cats. Dogs weighing up to 50 lbs are $65.00. Dogs weighing between 50 and 70 lbs are $80.00! We are not equipped to handle dogs larger than 70 lbs. Our services are offered to the community to help stop the over-population of dogs and cats by stopping unwanted births of hundreds of kittens and puppies every year in our neighborhoods. This also will help stop the unpleasant but often necessary euthanasia's of unwanted kittens and puppies, dogs and cats in your local animal control agencies and humane societies. If you want to help stop the over-population problem and lower euthanasia numbers, spay or neuter your pet!

HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPAYING AND NEUTERING YOUR PETS UNDER 4 MONTHS OF AGE. Here are just some of the benefits of spaying your female dogs....You are nearly stopping the chance of your dog ever getting breast cancer ~~ You are ending any possibility of her getting an infection of her uterus caused by multiple breeding, unhealthy births or from being unable to birth all puppies in the uterus ~~ She will never go into heat ~~ She will never add to the thousands of unwanted puppies being born every day in the United States. ******Here are some benefits of having your male cats neutered.....Your little baby boy will have a much greater chance of never spraying urine around the house marking his territory ~~ He will not be enticed away from home by a female in heat endangering his life in the road, or being attacked by a dog ~~ He will be a much sweeter, homebody cat ~~ He is much less likely to be in a cat fight with other male cats over territory or female cats in heat ~~ He will never be able to add to the thousands of unwanted kittens born every day in the United States! If you would like more information on the benefits of spaying and neutering your dogs and cats, just give us a call. We will be happy to hear from you and we can also schedule your pet in for surgery.

The animals need your help! The shelter desperately needs donations if we are to continue helping animals. Animals are taken in any day the shelter is open. We only accept animals from within our service area of Hendry and Glades Counties. No Exceptions! We simply do not have the money to accept animals from outside of our service area. The cost of supplies needed to provide services are astronomical! Your donations are tax deductible and are critical if we are to continue helping these homeless animals. Please, donate today.

Who We Are

We are a not-for-profit organization completely dependant on donations from you, fundraisers and what little money made from general operations. We do not receive any funds from any government, state, county or city budget or entity. We do not make money through the adoptions of pets. We always need financial support, donations or sponsorships so we can keep our doors open to the public. We take owner surrendered adoptable dogs and cats from our service are of Glades and Hendry Counties. We cannot accept dogs or cats from outside of our service area, as we are not funded to do so, nor can we accept stray animals. Stray animals must go through Animal Control first before we can accept them for adoption. We adopt all over the country! We have adopted pets as far away as Chicago, Maryland, Wisconsin, New York, just to name a few out-of-state areas. We offer safe haven for homeless pets, and find permanent and loving homes for as many as we can. We transfer adoptable pets to other adoption facilities that can help in the search for new homes. We humanely euthanize animals that cannot be adopted for the same reasons that "No Kill" shelters euthanize. These reasons are: poor quality of life caused by health or temperament issues. We perform behavior tests on all animals to help us determine its adoptability and for the safety of staff and a potential adoption. We offer Spay / Neuter services within our shelter! We promote responsible pet ownership. We will assist any pet owner with training issues to help the pet stay in its home. We offer humane education. We offer Microchip Implantations to the public and every dog and cat adopted is implanted with a microchip. Our shelter must rely on volunteers for help with many aspects of operations. We barely have the funds for two staff members. There is never enough time to get everything done that we need to get done, so we desperately need volunteers to assist the animals and us. This is not an easy road to travel. We are in constant need of help. The hours are very flexible, and, with the help received from volunteers, we are able to update the website and complete other jobs desperately needing attention! We can use a special talent or skill you may already have, or we can teach you a new one! Please, don't be shy, the animals really need you!

Adopting a friend

You can also help lower the adoption cost of an animal by donating money. Half will go towards the actual adoption donation of an animal you pick to help or the animal you may have to surrender, the other half goes toward general operations of the shelter so we can continue assisting the animals of Hendry and Glades Counties. So come in today and donate to help the animals!
