Due to funding issues the Spay/neuter senior program is on hold until further notice. The next dates for the clinic will be July 31 & Aug 1st.
We will be closed Sat July 5th and Mon July 6th for the holiday. Keep your pets inside this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT??
DeSoto County Animal Services has come along way from being the "dogpound" with "dogcatchers". We have trained Animal Control Officers and Shelter Technicians. Since our Shelter opened in Feb 2004, over 13,000 homeless/stray animals have passed through our doors.
Things to consider before adopting a pet;
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY - And not just for pet food. All pets need vaccinations, spay/neutered, parasite control, collar, tags, leashes, toys, treats, grooming.....
DOCTOR, DOCTOR GIVE ME THE NEWS - Take all new pets to veterinary clinic for a full check up, before taking home. Are your current pets up to date on vaccinations? Bringing any new animals into your family could put your pets at risk. No matter how careful we are there is always a risk of that illness may show up, even after vaccinations.
UNCHAIN MY HEART - Continuous tethering is bad for your dog. Dogs are pack animals that form a strong attachment to a family. An otherwise friendly and happy dog, when kept continuously chained and isolated, often become neurotic, unhappy, anxious and aggressive. Studies show that chained dogs are more likely to bite than unchained dogs. They are also subject to attacks by other animals and cruel humans. Many of the dogs behaviors that may cause an owner to tie their dog outside can be aleviated with proper training.
WILL YOU STILL NEED ME, WILL YOU STILL FEED ME, WHEN I'M 64 - Adoption is a lifetime commitment, pets are not disposible. Many pets are surrendered because their owners are moving, getting new job, having a baby... Pets are a part of your family. They love you if you are rich or poor, sick or healthy, in good times and bad. They will always be there waiting and happy to see you. Take care of them from puppy/kitten stage through their old age.

Adopting a friend
Adoption Fee: $25.00 plus proof of pre-paid rabie shot for animals over 3 months of age. Our cats are Fiv/FeLk tested, dogs Heart Worm tested. If they are positive it will be noted in their description. And all our pets are vaccinated.

Directions to our shelter: Follow Highway 51 south until you reach Starlanding Rd., turn west, drive approximately 1/2 mile to Gwynn Rd., turn south, follow road until you see a blue Animal Shelter sign, follow arrow and turn on Humane Way. Shelter will be located at the end of Humane Way.
