Frosty is a work in progress! He is a very handsome two-year-old Dalmatian/Shepherd mix at the SPCA in Georgetown, DE. He originally came from a horrible hoarding situation. He was actually found in a room with piles of trash and dead farm animals. He was hairless with blistered pink skin. It isn't surprising that he was scared of people for months before he finally learned to trust the staff that worked with him directly. He worked with a trainer at the SPCA and proved to be a quick study. He sits, lies down, twirls in a circle, takes a bow, runs through an agility tunnel, rolls over, and pushes the Staples Easy Button ("That was easy!") on command, and loves the treats he earns as rewards. CHECK OUT HIS VIDEO! Recently Frosty came through an intensive positive training program with flying colors. In fact, he continues to work with Leslie Fisher, PMCT CPDT-KA, from Look What I Can Do Dog Training. She reports that Frosty has gained a lot of confidence in meeting strangers and has even been to the local pet store a few times. But he willl need slow and gradual introductions to other family pets since it is going to take time for him to accept unknown dogs. Please check out the latest information on Frosty on Leslie's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Look-What-I-Can-Do-Dog-Training/140945443020. Frosty obviously needs to be adopted by someone who is dog savvy, a caring person who is ready to continue Frosty's training in order to help him become the dog he was meant to be. With training and a stable loving environment, Frosty is well on his way to overcome his horrible beginnings. Frosty has been neutered and is up-to-date on basic shots. Who We Are
Dalmatian Rescue of Delaware, Inc. is a small group of people living in the state of Delaware who love Dalmatians and want to help them in any way we can. We are 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Our main goal is to rescue Dalmatians and other breeds from shelters and abuse/abandonment situations and find them loving permanent homes where they will never be unwanted again. We foster them in our homes until a suitable home can be found, evaluate them, get them the medical care they need and give them lots and lots of love. However, we also have other, very important goals. One is to educate the public on the importance of spay/neuter for all dogs and cats. Thousands of unwanted dogs and cats are killed every year because there are not enough homes for them. Spaying and neutering your pet not only helps reduce the pet overpopulation, but it also is better for your pet's health. The other goal that is near and dear to our hearts is the destruction of deaf Dal puppies. It is a requirement of all breeeders who belong to the Dalmatian Club of America that all pups born deaf be destroyed at 5 weeks of age or younger. We hope to change this ruling by making the public aware that this is happening, and with the media's help, introducing the public to the many endearing qualities of the deaf Dal. We have only been in existence since July 2004, but have plenty of experience in rescue. Two of our members were heavily involved in Dal rescue with another organization, one of them since 1999.
Adopting a friend
We require all potential adopters to complete our adoption questionnaire, which is sent to them upon request. All applicants are screened, as we do home checks, and require vet references where applicable and personal references. Our adoption fee is $200.00, which helps offset expenses we have incurred. We get many inquiries on each dog up for adoption, and many people want to meet the dog. While we understand that the people inquiring would really like to see the dog in person, because of time restraints, we can only set up meetings with people who have filled out our adoption questionnaire and been approved to adopt.
Come Visit Us!
Since we all foster the rescued dals in our personal homes, we do not have a home base of operations. However we do have fundraisers each year and we try to attend several local functions such as the Kid's Fest where you can meet and greet our beautiful Dalmatians. We hope to meet you soon.
