The Dog Park is open for public use! The dimensions are 100 x 200 feet surrounded by a 6 foot fence. There are benches for your convience and agility equipment for the dogs. Rules will be posted soon.

Save your Coborn's pet points and receipts!! The shelter can earn money from the receipts as well as the pet points and for your convenience these can be dropped off at the drive-thru at both Dakotaland locations, both F&M locations as well as Bank of the West!
The Beadle County Humane Society has a low-cost spay and neuter program available to the public and encourage pet owners to contact us for more information. This particular program is for dogs that weigh at least 45 pounds.

2013 City Pet Licenses are available for purchase.
Executive Director, Kim Krueger would like to remind the citizens of Huron that it is THE LAW that cats and dogs that live in the City of Huron must be licensed yearly! This applies to all cats and dogs, even if they never go outside. Licenses can be purchased at the shelter from 11am-4pm Monday thru Friday and from 11am-2pm on Saturdays. If it is more convenient we can also do it through the mail, just call the shelter for more information. Licenses fees are due by January 31st each year.
Krueger would like to remind pet owners that you must be able to provide proof of current rabies vaccination at the time of licensing.
Not only is licensing your pet required, it is very important in order for the shelter to get your lost pet home in a timely fashion to alleviate the stress on both the owner and the animal. It also helps us to contact an owner in an emergency medical situation. We come across several of these situations each year and are left to sometimes make a life or death decision on an animal, and we would much rather have the owner responsible for that decision. Because we are a non-profit agency we are constantly seeking grants to help in our efforts, many of these organizations ask us for figure on how many animals we have in our community, currently we have only 286 animals licensed in the City of Huron, so of course this number does not reflect a need for our shelter to receive additional funding.
The fees for pet licenses are as follows: Altered pets $5, Unaltered pets $10, Kennel license (for persons owning four or more animals) $50
*If your pet is impounded without a license the fee will be $25
*If you fail to comply with the licensing ordinances animal control can and
will issue a summons in which case you will have to pay a fine along with
licensing fees and possible court costs.
Please visit the shelter and make your pet legal and at the same time visit the homeless animals in our care.

Who We Are
The Beadle County Humane Society was established to address the needs of animal welfare and promote responsible pet ownership. Funding for the organization comes from city and county support for animal control, impound and adoption fees, and donations. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Among the goals of the Humane Society is to educate people on issues of responsible pet ownership. Of primary concern is the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.
Adopting a friend
Are you really ready for a pet?
1. Pets now live to be 12, 15 even 20 years of age. Are you ready to commit yourself to care for an animal for this extended length of time?
2. Many shelter pets have been abused or neglected. They offer lots of love and loyalty, but they may need special understanding, care, handling, and training. Are you willing and able to deal with and work through any problems that arise?
3. Many of our pets are found homeless, therefore we have no past health record. We strive to give all our animals vaccinations once they enter the shelter, however this does not guarantee the health of the animal before it came to the shelter. Are you willing and able to deal with and work through any problems that arise?
-We will not be rushed through an adoption. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the process.
-We will put an animal on hold for you for 24 hours if you need time to consider enlarging your family with one of our pets.
-You will be required to sign a legal and binding contract promising good care, kind treatment, spaying or neutering, and your ordinance of state, city and federal laws concerning proper care for your pet.
-If you rent you home, we must have a copy of the written portion of your rental agreement stating that you are allowed to house animals on the property. or a written statement from your landlord.
-We will refuse an adoption if we believe it is not the right pet for you or the right home for our pet.
