Lack Of Funds Threatens Our Operation!
We began our efforts in 2001 to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. The rehabilitation of our rescued animals often includes expensive medical treatment. Many times we've taken in animals who we knew would require special medical care but we've also often we faced the unexpected medical issues that arise. In either case, we always provided the optimum level of care. When donated rescue funds weren't available, our founder always picked up the tab. As many face economic hardship, we are no exception. Our personal resources are depleted and like most other nonprofit organizations, we have seen a decline in donations. Not only is our ability to continue our rescue efforts in the future threatened, but we also must raise funds now to maintain the optimum level of care to the rescued animals already in our foster homes.
Additionally, we must raise funds to assist with outstanding medical expenses for some of the animals we've already helped. A list of a few of those we've recently helped is below.
Diamond, who has been with Jack's Angels longer than any other animal, swallowed a towel and required $1,200 emergency surgery and medical care. $2,500 had already been spent to board her when her adopters (at no fault of her own) suddenly returned her and we did not have a foster home available.
Aspen developed disc problems and other serious and unexpected medical issues while in our care that required expensive treatment.
Reggie was diagnosed with a blood parasite that caused damage to her heart. She required further diagnostics and treatment through a specialist, well exceeding $1,000. She needs additional follow-up testing and a special spay surgery (due to her fragile heart).
Twister had been badly neglected. Initial medical testing and care, as well as later medical testing and care when he suddenly developed seizures, exceeded $2,000.
Jonas and his sister Kylie, who sadly did not survive, had parvo virus and required more than $2,000 in emergency medical care.
Tella was pregnant when rescued and delivered her puppies the very next day. Whelping complications resulted in $800 in emergency medical care.
Nicholson had a head injury when rescued and required $700.00 surgery.
Marcy had heartworms and a respiratory infection when rescued. More than $1,000 was spent trying to save her precious life.
Hyden was born tiny and weak. In his three months of life, we spent many $100's trying to get a diagnosis, hoping to save his precious life.
Please help us help them. If you can donate, even a little, it truly helps. We (and the animals) cannot thank you enough. You can make a donation by clicking the "donate" button below.

Below are our general requirements and are to be met by any potential Jack's Angels adopter. Should you not meet each of our general requirements, you are not eligible to adopt a Jack's Angels' pets. Additional special requirements may apply for any individual Jack's Angels pet to ensure they are placed an an appropriate home.
Our adoption process is posted above. Each potential adopter must complete Jack's Angels adoption process.
Since Jack's Angels requires that one of their representatives who is familiar with the pet's specific needs attends the home visit, adoptions within 100 miles of Austin, TX are highly preferred and may be required, depending on various circumstances. Adoptions up to 200 miles from Austin, TX may be considered in certain situations. Adoptions farther than 200 miles of Austin, TX will not be considered, under any circumstances.
Jack's Angels will not adopt out pets to children or for the intention of a child being the only caregiver to the pet. All too often, pets are rehomed in these situations when the child loses interest in the pet. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and ready to make a life long commitment to a pet. Please keep in mind that dogs and cats commonly live to be 10 to 15 years of age. If a child will be the main caregiver for a pet, the parents must be involved in the process including filling out the adoption application and signing the adoption contract. The parent must also be wanting and willing to care for the pet if the child moves out, leaves for college, or is unable or unwilling to care for the pet at any point in the future.
In order to ensure our pets are placed in a home that is the best match for them and that can meet their specific needs, the person wanting to adopt the pet must be the one who goes through out adoption process.
Jack's Angels will not adopt out animals for breeding, hunting, guarding, or fighting animals. However, we encourage working jobs, such as therapy pets, and dog sports, such as flyball and agility, when the specific pet is appropriate for the job.
All pets must be primarily indoor pets. We never adopt out pets as outdoor only pets. Often with kitties, we require indoor only homes. With commonly stolen breeds, such as pit bulls, adopters must only allow them outdoors when they are being supervised. Tiny dogs also must never be left outside when unattended for that reason as well as the high risks of easily escaping a fenced yard, being hurt or killed by other animals, as well as other serious risks. Pets that are not at high risk must be safely confined in a fence when left unattended, not chained or tied. Outdoor only pets are unlikely to get the attention, socialization, guidance, and interaction needed to have a good quality and happy life. This often leads to them becoming destructive, noisy, escape artists, and even aggressive. If you currently have any outdoor pets, you are not eligible to apply for the adoption of a Jack's Angels pet.
Adopters must be willing to keep all their pets, including ones not aquired via Jack's Angels, current on all vaccinations. They also must be willing to provide all their pets with monthly heartworm preventive year-round. Due to Texas' climate, both dogs and cats are at risk for this disease which is transmitted via mosquitoes. Heartworm treatment for dogs is extremely expensive and high risk. There is no treatment for cats. Without treatment, heartworm disease is fatal. Adopters must also be willing and able to provide all of their pets with any other medical care as needed, including unexpected and emergency veterinary care.
Your pets' diets play a huge role in pet's general health and therefor we expect all adopters to provide all of their pets with a high quality diet. These foods should contain no chemical preservatives, no by-products, no fillers, and no additives.
All pets within the home must be spayed or neutered with the exception of pets that are currently competing in confirmation dog shows and that have breed appropriate health certifications or pets that cannot be anesthetized for health related reasons. Documentation of this status will be required. All pets adopted from us will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption or be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract in which they must be spayed/neutered by 6 months of age and documentation of this must be provided.

Becoming A Foster Family
JFAT is in constant need of more foster homes. Our waiting list of pets in need is never ending. Many of the pets are at or soon to be at high kill shelters where pets are mostly euthanized due to lack of space. We are in need of foster homes for all sizes, ages, & types of cats & dogs.
Making A Donation
Did you know that only in rare cases do pets' adoptions fees cover the cost incurred in their rescue? For healthy pets we typically incur costs of $200 or more in veterinary expenses alone. We often have pets that require additional medical treatment such as heartworm treatment, treatment for neglect, & treatment for injuries which can result in $100's more spent for their rescue. We have a no-kill policy for all stable tempered pets and do not euthanize pets due to health problems unless the pet is suffering & unlikely to make a recovery. We also provide all pets in our organization with high quality food, a crate with a pad or bed at night, safe fenced areas for exercise, chews, toys & much more. More difficult pets are provided with professional training to help make them more adoptable. Please help us continue to be able to provide these wonderful animals with the things they need while in our care by making a donation. No donation is too small & all donations are greatly appreciated by pets in need & their caregivers who cover most of the cost out of their own pockets. If you have gently used or new items that you would like to donate and are in the Austin area, please call Julie at (512) 689-5178 to have them picked up at your convenience. You can also send donations to the address below or make a quick & secure donation online by clicking the "Make A Donation" button below.
