Our Pet List

We do NOT have a shelter. All of our furry friends are kept in foster homes.

Claudia will be having knee surgery on September 2. Due to her recuperation THERE WILL BE NO PET ADOPTION on Saturday September 6th or Saturday September 13th. The tentative return date will be Saturday, September 20th, but please check back to this website for any updates. Claudia also needs foster families to help her out during her recovery. If you would be able to open your doors and foster one of the dogs listed for adoption, please see her at our adoption events on Saturdays or email her at ccrl50@yahoo.com

Pet of the Week

Our pet of the week is:

Millie (click on my picture to see more about me) "I was returned when my owners could not agree on whether or not to keep me. I would love to find an active family to play with and be my forever home (and yes, I am housebroken)"

Who We Are

"Critter Connection" was founded in 1996. It is a non-profit, no-kill canine rescue group, operated totally by its volunteers. It serves the residents of Oakland County, MI as well as all of the surrounding areas. We exist solely on the generosity of your donations, adoption fees of the animals and MOST IMPORTANTLY, FOSTER HOMES. No federal, state or local governmental funds are provided to us. Over 200 rescued pets are adopted into carefully screened homes each year. Our main goal at "Critter Connection" is to provide loving forever homes for unwanted animals & to help end the inhumane or unlawful treatment & disposal of unwanted animals. The volunteers of "Critter Connection" simply love these animals & want to see them adopted into permanent loving homes. Our goal is to rescue as many of these innocent animals we possibly can & give them a second chance at life. All of our animals are kept in foster homes. We do NOT have a shelter!!!

News

If you have a furry friend at home that you have adopted from us, another rescue, shelter or wherever; PLEASE - WE ARE BEGGING YOU.... NEVER, EVER, LET YOUR DOG BE OUTSIDE OF YOUR FENCE, OFF IT'S LEASH, NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF BREED IT MAY BE!!! In one month, (3) of our adopted furry friends were hit by cars & have crossed the Rainbow Bridge way too soon because their owners felt they were trained & would not dart out of their own yards. No matter how well trained your canine is, DON'T HAVE THE ATTITUDE "IT CAN'T HAPPEN TO ME". PLEASE, learn from someone else's mistake. NEVER allow your furry best friend, the one that gives you all of that unconditional love, to be untethered when NOT in a confined area.

If you are considering adopting a pet from us and rent a home, condo, townhouse, etc. PLEASE bring a copy of your landlord or rental management?s rules on having pets. This will help to make the adoption process easier. We must see this approval before we will do a final adoption! Thanks.

We do not conduct adoptions to anyone with children under the age of (5). We came to this decision (3) years ago when in approximately a (2) year time span a few of our adopted friends accidentally were let out or got past children going out the door. These canines, either did not make it to the vet or are now limping & living with pins in their legs. We have also had our furry friends returned to us because the canine has knocked the child down, played too rough with the child, etc.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND, WE PUT A LOT OF EFFORT IN WHAT WE DO & WE LOVE THESE CANINES AS OUR OWN. THIS RULE IS STRICTLY IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CANINE. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

We at "Critter Connection" realize that more & more homes & subdivisions are not allowed to have a structural type of fence, thus, the need for an "Invisible Fence." Please understand we are not very fond of this type of containment for our furry friends. One reason being, just because the dog has a collar on & "can't " leave his boundaries, there's nothing that prevents other predators from coming in & attacking the canine. Also, even though the canine is wearing his collar & is in his own yard, nothing prevents other children or anyone from coming in the yard & taunting or harming the animal, which could lead the canine to bite. Even if the canine is in his own home, you, the homeowner, is still liable if the dog should bite. We all know what 9 out of 10 times happens to a canine that has bitten. Also, some of our volunteers know personally of canines that have gone through the boundary of the fence only to have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, way too soon.
NOT ALL CANINE BREEDS WERE MEANT TO USE THIS TYPE OF FENCING. PLEASE, PLEASE, UNDERSTAND, IF WE SAY NO TO AN INVISIBLE FENCE. IT IS STRICTLY IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CANINE!!!

Because of past bad experiences, we will ONLY conduct local adoptions!! We will only let our furry friends be adopted within a 15-20 mile radius of where we do our pet adoptions. This is ANY canine - puppies included. Please understand our concern is for the well being of our furry friends.

In the best interest of our furry friends, "Critter Connection" does NOT conduct out-of-state adoptions, NOR do we ship them.

Foster Families

We are in desperate need of foster families! If you would be interested in helping to care for a furry buddy in your home, please let us know! The more foster families we have, the more animals we can rescue from bad situations & possibly euthanasia.

This is what one family has to say about fostering....

" My experience with fostering for Critter Connection has been very positive. I have fostered two Critter Connection dogs; one at a time, and kept them; one for a couple of months and the other for several months. The first dog that I fostered, was a very sweet Chow-Chow named Sami. She was and is a very lovable dog. We loved her so much, that we adopted her. She was turned in to "Pet Supplies Plus" on adoption day and she was young, strong, and without any problems. We loved her at first sight and she has been a welcome addition to our home. The second dog that we fostered, had been found wandering and Critter Connection came to the rescue and picked her up. She is a beautiful Rottie named Carley, and again, we fell in love with her. She needed a hip replacement. We kept her, worked with her to get her strong, and with the help of fundraisers and donations, Critter Connection?\ was able to have her hip replaced. She stayed with us until she had recovered and was ready for a permanent home. She has gone to her new home and we are so happy that she will have a new family and another dog in the home to love her.

The fostering experience is a wonderful one. Taking care and loving a dog that truly needs to be loved until they can find a permanent home is very rewarding. We are looking forward to continuing our work with Critter Connection.

Thank you, Judy. You helped to make a difference.

Success Stories

Heidi came to "Critter Connection" back in the fall of 2002. She was high energy but very loving. She had tried a few foster homes but she was too much for them. And then came Mary.

Here is what Mary has to say about Heidi:

?Hi! I just wanted to share the latest on Heidi as we enjoy the fall! I love her so much! Her nicknames are Heidi Ho, Heids, and Honey. I know she loves me, too. In the evening, we sit together on the sofa and she loves to be petted. She still gets possessive about toys & treats every once in awhile, but it is becoming less frequent. I think it?s been good for her to have a home. She snuck out of a loose board in the fence last week & gave me a heart attack, but she was only next door (needless to say, the fence is now repaired). She is sleeping on the sofa as I write this- so angelic. I can't wait to come home from work every day when she & Gator are waiting for me.

Take care, Mary K.?

See there.... there's a place for every dog out there -- sometimes, it just time and patience!!

?Hi all! Exactly one year ago we were searching for a dog at "Petfinder.com" and found Max (Maximus). He was and is a 25lb. Parti-Cocker, with an attitude. He had been with you for 8 months and he was about 16 months old... and you had unsuccessfully tried to place him. We went out to Novi, on Dec 5th and picked him up for our week of fostering..... on the way home, we knew we were not going to let him go home with anyone else. He is still a snarly, yippy, unpredictable ball of fur.... but we have also discovered, that is a ruse.... he is afraid of everything. There's not a brave bone in his body! This dog runs away from the wind! We want to thank you for being patient and finding him a home... ours...He has a huge yard and takes lots of walks and shows us lots of love..... he has definitely found his forever home, thanks to you!

Karen and Larry of Wyandotte.?

Volunteers and donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated!! We can always use volunteers to help out with the animals at the adoptions. If you are interested in volunteering, stop by our adoption site in Novi to talk to us & fill out an application form. Please, 12 years old & older.

All monetary donations are greatly appreciated and are used only for the care of the animals. Other donations include: bleach, laundry detergent, large garbage bags, babygates, stamps, envelopes, & gift certificates to various stores & gas stations.
