Welcome To The Critter ConnectionThe Critter Connection, Inc., based in Connecticut, specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of guinea pigs. We also assist other individuals or groups who need to find homes for their pets due to unforeseen circumstances by listing their pets on our Petfinder Web site. Many of the guinea pigs on our Adoptables list are housed at The Critter Connection or one of its foster homes. Our rescue depends on donations from caring people like you! For more information about us, please visit our Web site. You also can find us monthly in Pets Press, a newspaper published for Connecticut pet owners, in their "ask the experts" section. To find out where you can pick up a free copy of the paper, visit the Pets Press Web site. Our Featured Pets
The rescue has worked on several large cruelty cases and hoarder situations since 2004. Some of the guinea pigs that came out of those horrible conditions are not easily adoptable due to health reasons. Their quality of life is very good, but they have medical issues that make them less than desirable to many potential (and inexperienced) adopters. Because we are a no-kill rescue, we keep these guinea pigs with us and give them the best food and medical care available. As of June 2009, we are pressed for room in the rescue. With 24 permanent residents, including seniors and special needs pigs, our financial resources are tapped out. With the bad economy, some of the pigs we adopted out during our first year or two of operation have come back to us as financially struggling families have had to make difficult decisions to surrender pets they cannot afford to care for any longer. Because these pigs are seniors (5+ years old), they will be difficult to rehome with new families and, thus, will likely become sanctuary pigs. The more sanctuary pigs we have, the less space we have for more easily adoptable guinea pigs. The fewer adoption fees we bring in, the fewer funds we have available to care for all the pigs in the rescue at any given time. As a result of all of this, the rescue's resources have been drained, the rescue owner is having to tap into her personal finances to keep the pigs fed and healthy, and the rescue's board is fighting to find ways to keep the rescue open. We badly need donations of any size to help with the approximately $800 in monthly expenses for food, hay, fresh veggies and fruit, cage bedding, and medical care. We also need loving homes that understand 4- and 5-year-old guinea pigs can still offer loving, charming companionship for potentially two or three more years -- and that whatever time you do have with these pigs is a precious gift. To make a donation, you can use the PayPal button on this page. If you are interested in adopting guinea pigs, please check our adoptables list or contact us directly. In addition to our public list here on Petfinder, we often have a list of other guinea pigs who need new homes; these pigs are still with their families while they are waiting either for room to open up in the rescue or for a suitable adopter to appear.
