ADOPTING A FRIEND Adopting a dog, cat, or other type of pet is one of the most fun and rewarding experiences you could ever have. However, adoption is a big commitment! It is important to think the decision over very carefully, keeping in mind that adopting a pet is a 10 to 20 year commitment. Our adoption process emphasizes this commitment. We try to slow things down a bit so that potential adopters have time to be sure they are ready for a new pet. Our adoptions take place in a 4 step process: 1) Adopter fills out an application, which includes providing references. NOTE: We require a veterinary reference and personal references. You MUST have a adequately fenced in yard to adopt a dog. We do not adopt out animals outside our local area in North Carolina.2) An adopter makes arrangements to visit the pet he/she thinks they would like to adopt . 3) We do a home inspection ("HOME CHECK"). If an application is approved, we STRONGLY encourage you to first foster the animal, to make sure he/she is the right animal for you and your home. 4) After a week or two of fostering (if you choose to foster first), adoption is the next step! An adoption agreement is signed. Thank you for understanding. . Everything we do is in the best interest of the individual animals we help. Therefore, we reserve the right to deny adoption by any party we feel would not provide a suitable home. "Suitable" is based solely on the Compassion in Action Foundation's experience and judgment. Everything this organization does is based on the individual animals' happiness and well being. TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL YOU MUST SIGN A CONTRACT AND TO HAVE THE ANIMAL SPAYED OR NEUTERED WITHIN 30 DAYS, IF THEY ARE NOT ALREADY ALTERED. You must supply us with documentation from a vet noting that the animal was altered. We REALLY appreciate your cooperation with our adoption procedures. Thank you for caring about the animals!
