Who We Are

The Chippewa County Animal Control Shelter is managed by Holly Henderson and two part-time dedicated shelter attendants, Debra Cox and Jesse Gomez. who, first and foremost, put the health and care of the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens as their primary concern. Although no public animal shelter finds it easy to maintain a no kill policy, we are VERY PROUD that we adhere to strict directives where euthanasia is concerned. Very stringent protocol has been adopted where loss of animal life is considered.

Some Good (and Inexpensive) Ideas for Pet Owners

Write your phone number on your dog's collar. Spend a dollar on a permanent marker (Sharpie or other brand pen). Many of the Good Samaritans who bring in dogs to the shelter would have returned your pet directly to you, if they knew who the owner was.

Better yet, put your dog's license and rabies tags on its collar. Owners can be traced through the numbers on either tag.

Call WSOO Radio (AM 1230 on the dial) 632-2231 to put a lost or found pet on Pet Patrol, which airs daily at 9:45 AM. Radio station personnel report that they often are able to reunite lost pets with their owners even before the information hits the airwaves, by matching up a "found" call with a "lost pet" call.

'Found' ads are free in the Evening News. Phone 632-2235. Although 'lost ads' are not free, they are very inexpensive, considering the broad coverage to help you find your lost pet.

Take several photos of your pet, both head closeups and full body shots. If your pet gets lost, you can photocopy the pictures and add a description to make a poster.

Adopting a Friend

Any pet adopted from the Chippewa County Animal Shelter must be spayed or neutered, either before or after adoption.

Adoption Fees:

If an animal is older than 12 weeks and has already been spayed or neutered, the adoption fee is $50.00 for dogs and $50.00 for cats.

For puppies and kittens less than 12 weeks of age, the adoption fee is $50.00.

If an animal is older than 12 weeks but has not yet been spayed or neutered, there is no adoption fee. However, the adopter is required to pay a deposit of $25.00, of which $10.00 will be refunded upon written certification from a veterinarian that the surgery has been completed.

Come Visit Us!

Better yet, drop by the shelter and pick up an application. NO TASK IS TOO SMALL. OUR ANIMALS WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU! You must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer.
