TROUPER'S STORY!


Trouper is a male/neutered 2 year old 7 lb chihuahua who was found as a stray and brought to a local animal shelter. Trouper’s right rear hip was noticeably injured in the shelter, but nothing was done for him. No vet check, no x ray and no pain meds. Trouper was put into a foster home by the shelter and was not given any kind of vet care even though the foster mom pleaded with the shelter to pay for it. This went on for over a month and then the foster mom found us and Chihuahua Haven Rescue paid for him to have a vet exam, an x-ray and pain meds ($358.00).

The Diagnosis:

Legge-Perthes Disease - It is similar to Hip Dysplasia in larger breeds. It is pretty uncommon in small dogs and the hip joint and leg bone have severe degeneration. The vet also said that it looks like he had some trauma to the same area, but he wasn't sure if it happened before or after the bone disease. He is in pain and is on pain medication every day. The broken pieces of bone are grinding against each other and he rarely puts his leg down. He is a real sweet, spunky boy, he loves his stuffed toys and he "talks" to us every day. The vet said he needs surgery to relieve the pain and to help him get around more smoothly. The vet said he needs FHO surgery. It will clean out the hip joint and cut out the excess bone debris. They will also need to do a bone biopsy to test the bone. He really needs this surgery and the sooner the better so he can start to live life pain free.

The two estimates we have right now is $1250.00 to $1500.00 for the surgery and $150.00 to $200.00 for the bone biopsy. Another vet has quoted use over the phone at $1000.00 plus whatever hidden expenses and aftercare expenses.

So we are fundraising for Trouper’s surgery and ask for your help. Who We Are

We are a rescue consisting of an all volunteer organization (all of our volunteers have full time jobs) where all of our dogs are rescued from shelters and then put in a foster network where all the dogs are in private homes everyday. We do not have a shelter and our dogs are not kept in cages. All of our dogs are started on housebreaking, however, we do not guarantee that they will be housebroken. We offer education on how to housebreak a dog as well as other information on different situations. Every dog is spayed or neutered, current on shots, dewormed, Advantix for fleas and ticks and is microchipped. For the dogs that need grooming, we take our dogs to professional groomers. For consideration of one of our dogs, please email us at chihaven@wildblue.net for an adoption application. If approved, we will make an appointment with you to see the dog. We are located in Corona and Temecula Valley, CA and we will meet you in Corona or Temecula or at the Petsmart in Lake Elsinore. Sorry we do not ship dogs. If you would like to visit one of our dogs, please email us and we can make arrangements to meet you in Temecula during the week by appointment. Otherwise, we will be at the Lake Elsinore Petsmart on Saturday and Sunday and we ask that you email us by Friday to let us know what dog you would like to see on the weekend!! The address for the Petsmart is 29227 Central Ave., Lake Elsinore, CA in the Lowe's/Costco/Staples shopping center of the 15 freeway at Central Ave.
