The Cowboy Capital Pet Assistance League, Inc. (C.C.P.A.L.) is an all volunteer, no-kill, non-profit organization serving the whole of Bandera county. Our primary purpose is to find safe, permanent homes for the stray and abandoned cats and dogs in our care.
ADOPTING A FRIEND: Before being adopted all our pets are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccinations, and microchipped. We require a fenced yard for all adopted dogs and that they be kept on heartworm preventative. We have many breeds, from pups to adult to seniors, some are pure bred, others are mixes.
OUR ADOPTION CENTER is located on Highway 16 north about 2 miles north of the Bandera city limits. It is open to the public on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. when volunteers are available to help visitors find their dream pet. Anyone wishing to view our pets at other times may call (830) 510-6879 or (830) 535-7297 to arrange an appointment. You may also email maudreyh@aol.com or drkmb@wireweb.net to make viewing arrangements. Pets in foster homes may also be seen by special appointment.
FOSTER HOMES: Temporary foster homes are vital to the well-being of our dogs, especially the larger ones. They need a place to run and play and become socialized with other people and other pets. Many have simply strayed from their homes without any ID, or been dumped by owners who can no longer care for them. They are usually well-mannered and already house-trained. VOLUNTEERS: C.C.P.A.L. always needs reliable volunteers to help clean kennels, feed, water and exercise the dogs, and to clean cat towers and feed and play with the cats and kittens. We welcome volunteers of all ages. Young children work under strict adult supervision. If you can spare an hour or two a week please call Sue at (830) 535-7297 for more information.
SPONSOR A PET: C.C.P.A.L. offers a sponsorship program for anyone who cannot adopt, foster or volunteer but would still like to help. For $20 per month or $250 for a complete year you can sponsor any of our 19 Sanctuary Dogs. These dogs are considered hard to place for health or behavioral reasons. They are available for adoption to applicants that understand and can cope with their very special needs. Or, if you wish, you may sponsor a pet that is waiting to be adopted. The money helps to pay for the pet's food and vaccinations. In return you will receive a photo of the pet and periodic updates on its progress. TRAINING CLASSES: C.C.P.A..L. offers quarterly dog obedience classes. These are held once a week for six weeksand and are offered at both the basic and advanced levels. For more information call (830) 751-2377. You will be amazed at what you and your pet will learn.
MICROCHIP YOUR PET: Micro-chipping is the easiest and most effective way to return lost pets to their owners. A simple, quick injection implants a pre-numbered microchip between your pet's shoulders. Most rescue organizations, animals control facilities, and veterinarians scan incoming cats and dogs for microchip identification. Your chip number can also be registered nationally if your pet travels with you.
