Did you know that each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all of the animals. There are 7 puppies and kittens born for every 1 person, 2,500 to 3,000 puppies and kittens are born each hour in the United States. Only 1 in 10 will find a home. As a result, 4-6 million animals in the U.S. each year are euthanized because there are no homes for them. Spaying and neutering is not an expensive procedure. Please encourage your friends of feline and canine companions to spay and/or neuter their pets.
CCAPS is deep in the heart of kitten season, caring for mother cats and their nursing kittens until the babies are weaned and ready for adoption. If you live in Columbia County you can help by providing a loving foster home where the cats have a safe place to grow and become strong until they're eight weeks of age. CCAPS is also looking for temporary homes for cats who need to recover from an injury or illness. Fostering offers the opportunity to experience the joys of having a pet without making a lifelong commitment-and a great way to save lives. If you would like to help out, contact Becky at Second Chances Thrift Store and ask if fostering opportunities are available.
Our DOG shelter is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 3 PM and the first Saturday of the month from 11 AM to 2 PM and any other times by appointment, just call and ask. If you call during our open hours and get the message machine just call back a little later, we are just busy feeding and tending to the dogs. These hours were effective May 2008 and we are exploring evening hours to be more available to the public (let us know what you think--just call or e-mail to tell us).
For the shelter we could use cyclone/chain link fencing for additional dog runs and kennels. Grooming supplies are always welcome and detergent for the washing machine is needed. Cleaning supplies: 409 Degreaser, PineSol, Bleach, Brooms and Scrub Brushes, Heavy Duty Water Hoses. We could also use washable dog beds, bath towels and plush bath mats for beds, safe dog toys and rawhide chews. Also on our wish list: dog houses, crates, dog pens/runs, leashes, collars and canned dog food for puppies and seniors. Any donation is welcome, your kindness will not only save lives, your gift will spare animals the fate of horrible abuse/neglect and end suffering among animals.
Much abuse and cruelty to animals can be traced to one simple problem, the uncontrolled births of pets. By supporting CCAPS you can help us spay and neuter shelter pets to prevent future unwanted puppies and kittens. You can support our efforts to stop animal abuse and neglect by making a generous contribution to CCAPS today. Please send the largest gift you can manage to help CCAPS save animals and be a part of the solution to help innocent animals in south Arkansas. Your gift, contributions and support will make a humane difference and it has never been more needed than it is today. Every dollar makes a difference in the life of a homeless or abused pet. Thank you for your help.

Goals:
To find responsible, life-long homes for animals suitable for family pets.
To assure, as far as possible that the newly adopted pet will be placed in a home where it will receive adequate care and companionship as well as food, water, shelter, and veterinary care.
The sterilization of all animals.
When required, to provide euthanasia in the most humane fashion for animals judged too incapacitated to live comfortably.
To develop and promote public education programs on the ethical and humane treatment of animals.
An adoption fee of $80 per dog is to be paid to CCAPS by the applicant before the animal can be released. This adoption fee covers--All vaccinations due for animals age, Heartworm Testing, Monthly wormer, Spay or Neuter of animal, and Rabies vaccine and a small bag Science Diet Pet food. This is a great deal compared to the cost of each of these services seperatly. Appointment for Sterilization and Transportation for adopted animal to Vet can be provided by shelter staff.
An adoption fee of $60 per cat is to be paid to CCAPS by the primary caregiver of the animal. This fee covers: for adults - test for Feline Leukemia and FIV, spay or neuter, vaccinations that include FVRCP, Rabies, worming, flea/ear mite treatments plus a complete veterinary examination and any necessary medical treatment; or for kittens - test for Feline Leukemia, 1st FVRCP, Rabies at time of sterlization, plus any other necessary medical care, and a thorough veterinary examination. While we never adopt a cat or kiten that we have reason to believe is ill or has been exposed to disease, there are no adequate tests for certain viruses. We adopt our cats out in good faith, but we cannot guarantee their continued health. If you have a friend or relative whom you think would bond well with one of our adoptable cats or kittens, they will need to contact us in person. All of our cats must be spayed or neutered. In most cases of the adult cats, this process has already been completed.

Volunteers are always needed at the Shelter, to volunteer call Steve Stroebele @ 870-234-7297 10 am to 3 pm Mon.-Fri. Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, teach them social skills and to help socialize young puppies. Spending a few hours each week with the dogs will make them more adoptable and add to the quality of their lives while in the shelter. Dog walkers are needed M-F, 12 to 3 PM. If you are not up to walking dogs or working with boisterous puppies you can help by just sitting and talking to the puppies helping them adjust to living with people. A few hours of your time will make a difference in the life of a dog or puppy.
Our shelter is not able to afford paid full- time staff and has a small but dedicated part-time staff that oversee the day-to-day operations business and maintenance of the facility. We rely heavily on the generosity of our volunteers, who give us their time and skills to help us provide the best possible care for the animals that are entrusted to us. Your service would be invaluable and greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions concerning one of our pets you can call 870-234-PAWS or you can e-mail your questions to familydogtrainer@netzero.com
