CHECK OUT OUR NEW CAT TREE

During December we did a fundraising drive to buy one or two new cat trees for the foster kitties. We purchased the one below at a cat show in January and plan on bu\ying another tree from the same vendor this coming march. Thanks to the special donors who made the acquisition of the cat trees happen: Scott H., Gaye F., Jocelyn W., Karen S., Dale G, and Gina L...

WE DON'T RESCUE DOGS ... USUALLY

Photobucket

Recently we received a call from one of our vets about a 6 week old Chihuahua puppy the backyard breeder had brought in to be euthanized. The pup was born with no front legs and the "breeder" didn't want to be bother with the dog. The vet wondered if we could help. So, the vet had the person surrender the pup to her and we started putting out feelers to the animal rescue community to see if we could find a permanent home. The response was overwhelming! Many people wanted to adopt the dog outright based on the sympathy factor. Eventually, we found a person who specializes in fostering and rehoming handicapped dogs and who works with the Yolo SPCA. She took the pup and is in the process of getting her a set of wheels so she can get around more

Who We Are

Cats on the River is a feline-only non-profit rescue organization that has been in business for about 8 years. We do our best to find permanent, loving homes for all our cats and they stay here, cage free, until we do. All of the kitties are tested to be sure they are negative for feline leukemia and AIDS, vaccinated, wormed, and spayed or neutered. As an official IRS section 501(c)(3) non-profit, all contributions to Cats on the River are deductible to the extent allowed by law.

News

We do adoptions out of a location in the North Natomas area and are available any day of the week. Hours are flexible, so please call to set up a time to come and meet the kitties we have available. At any given time we have an average of 5 kittens and around 12 cats over one year old available for adoption. Follow the link above to our adoptable pets to see which kitties are waiting for you to call!

Adopting a friend

We do an initial screening by telephone or by email and then potential adopters are invited to schedule a time to come out and meet the kitties. We have a written adoption contract and we charge an adoption fee to help reimburse us for the money we spend on the felines getting them healthy and ready to go to their new homes. That adoption fee pays for less than 25% of what we spend on each kitty getting it ready to be adopted including the spay/neuter, testing negative for FELV/FIV, vaccination, worming, and flea treatment.
