Who We Are

C.A.R.E. For Animals is a non-profit, all volunteer animal welfare organization. Our mission is: to improve the quality of life of our animal friends by strengthening the bond between humans and animals; ending suffering due to abandonment, abuse, and neglect; and eliminating the need for euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals in our shelters. Adopting a friend

We have many wonderful animals waiting to find a special home of their own. C.A.R.E. For Animals seeks loving families who will consider their new pet to be part of their family. Through our application and interview process, we strive to match pets and families together who are compatible in terms of temperament characteristics and lifestyle needs. Because pet ownership is a serious decision and a long-term commitment (of 10 years or more), we believe that suitability of the home, and compatibility of the pet is critical in the adoption process.

Adoption Policies

  • We require that our dogs live primarily inside with their families.
  • We require that our cats live safely inside only in their new homes.
  • We prohibit declawing of our adopted cats, due to the nature of this procedure.
  • A perspective adopter's current pets must be current on their veterinary care AND spayed/neutered.
  • All adopted pets MUST be spayed/neutered if not done prior to adoption.
  • Other policies may apply as they relate to the well-being of the animal and any individual pet 's needs.

    Adoption Procedures

  • Prospective adopters will be required to complete an adoption process, which includes:

  • an adoption application
  • a phone interview to review the application
  • reference check
  • a home visit with the pet - this not only allows us the opportunity to see where our pet would be living, but gives you the opportunity to spend more 1-1 time with the pet in your home, before making a final decision about adoption.
  • upon adoption approval, adopters will be required to sign an adoption contract agreeing to good quality care for their new pet.

  • C.A.R.E. For Animals offers a 30 day trial period to ensure that both the family and the pet are both happy with the results of the adoption. Within that time, we will refund the full adoption fee if the pet is returned.
  • C.A.R.E. For Animals also completes post-adoption follow-up to ensure appropriate care of the pet and to offer ongoing support for many years of companionship between the family and their pet.

    Adoption Fees
  • Dogs: $125
  • Cats: $95

Each animal has received the following veterinary care prior to adoption:
  • veterinary exam
  • routine vaccinations
  • spay/neuter surgery (according to age)
  • dogs have been tested and started on heartworm preventative
  • cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV.
(For animals who have not been spayed/neutered, a portion of the adoption fee will be refunded upon proof of surgery.)

    Come Visit Us

C.A.R.E. For Animals is NOT an animal shelter. Our program animals are placed in loving foster homes throughout the Triangle area. We believe there is significant value in the foster-home concept, which allows for the animal's temperament, behavior, and needs to be assessed in a family setting prior to adoption. Animals can be met at our adoption events, or by individual appointment.

This site is dedicated to Simon, a huggable, loveable kitty that brought much joy to his foster mom's life. Rescued from a feral cat colony as a 3 wk. old, scrawny & sickly little fur ball, Simon blossomed into a strikingly handsome creature, who charmed his way into his rescuer's heart...hook, line, and sinker. He loved to be carried and coddled, would literally "flip"over a feather wand, but most of all, he adored his sister, Tabitha. Sadly, Simon was positive for feline leukemia, and the disease overtook his little body just shortly after his first birthday...and only one week before he would have celebrated his 1st anniversary with his foster mom. While Simon never got to be adopted into a permanent home of his own, he will always have a permanent place in his foster mom's heart. Please consider adopting a special needs pet. They are truly SPECIAL, indeed.
In Memory of Simon July, 2000 - August 19, 2001
