Join our open Facebook group: "CAPS - Companion Animal Protection Society of Annapolis County".
Join us at 7:00 pm on the last Wednesday of each month for the regular monthly meeting of CAPS' Board of Directors. Meetings are held at the municipal building in Lawrencetown. Members and friends are encouraged to attend! In case of inclement weather, contact CAPS at 825-2277 for cancellation information
The CAPS' Sponsor an Animal Program lets you and your family work hand in hand with our foster parents to provide, shelter, food and medical care to a homeless or abandoned animal in our care. Your sponsorship will give these beautiful orphans a second chance at a life they once only dreamed of. You may not be able to adopt or to foster an animal right now, but by sponsoring one of our "family", you become a part of the CAPS' team.
You will get the joy of knowing that your gift is helping to pay for the care of the animals while they live in foster care with CAPS. For many older or special needs animals, this will be their forever home.
We ask for a donation of $75 for an adult cat or $125 for a kitten under 6 months of age. You have the option of sending a one-time lump sum or 12 post-dated cheques. Your gift gives these animals the extra special care they deserve.
What an amazing gift to give, the gift of love and care for a needy animal. A sponsorship package, including a gift card announcement, photo of the cat or kitten being sponsored and a sponsorship certificate will be sent to the recipient. You don't have to worry about clothing sizes, favorite colours, or shipping costs. Sponsorship of an abandoned animal fits everyone, and we look after the mailing. Gift-giving the CAPS' way!
Yes! We are a registered non-profit charity and your contribution is fully deductible for federal income tax purposes.
You can do all this and make such a difference for less than the cost of a few cups of coffee each month!
Download the registration package, fill out the sponsorship form and mail your donation to CAPS. Registration packages are also available from our supporters throughout Annapolis County.
If you would like more information on the Sponsor-an-Animal program, please send us an email at info@caps-annapolis.org.

Please remember that CAPS is unable to take surrendered pets. All our animals have come to us via Annapolis county Animal Control.

There is no better gift than a home for an orphaned animal. Living in a home-like environment, most of our cats have a buddy to chum around with, or a sibling or two still in foster care. So, with this in mind, CAPS has a "BOGO" adoption offer!
When you adopt a feline companion from us, you may take a second one home for just half the regular adoption fee.
Requested Minimum Donation:
Cats: $80 + $40 for a friend
Kittens: $100 + $50 for a friend
Puppy Mills and Back Yard Breeders, operating in dismal conditions in garages, basements, barns and bedrooms, produce huge numbers of puppies each year for profit and no other reason. They sell through retail pet stores and through classified ads.
These mills are not necessary to meet the public's demand for companion dogs, as there are more than enough wonderful dogs in shelters across the province that need homes.
Millions of unwanted and homeless kittens are born in our country each year. During peak kitten season, from April to September, pounds and humane shelters across Canada euthanise abandoned and unwanted cats at the rate of ONE PER MINUTE
If you could take a diverse group of people, ranging in age from teenage to 'golden' age, living in towns and villages throughout the Annapolis Valley and ask what we had in common, would you know the answer? The answer would be our love and compassion for abandoned and stray companion animals in Annapolis County. It is this group of dedicated volunteers that forms the heart and soul of Companion Animal Protection Society of Annapolis County, or CAPS, as it is known.
The Companion Animal Protection Society of Annapolis County, Nova Scotia is a diverse group, but the one thing we all have in common is our love and appreciation for the animals that touch our lives. CAPS is run entirely through the efforts of volunteers, and we'd love to have you join us. The more the merrier!
Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have regarding this site and our operations. We hope you enjoy your time here, learning about what we're doing to improve the prospects of Annapolis County's homeless animals!
Don't forget to check out our volunteer program to find out how you can share your talents with CAPS.
The Companion Animal Protection Society of Annapolis County was formed in December 2004 .An all-volunteer group, its goal is to improve and supplement the work of the County of Annapolis in the humane treatment of abandoned or stray companion animals. This will be achieved by:
-vigorously promoting responsible pet ownership and the spaying and neutering of all companion animals.
-cultivating awareness, respect, and appreciation for all animals whose world we share.
-managing our resources and contributions in a responsible manner.
- caring for animals in our care in loving, stress-free, home-like settings to the best of our ability as long as it is necessary to find them permanent homes.
CAPS bylaws (revised April 2009)
When animals are picked up by Annapolis County Animal Control, they are first taken to the county pound. Pets are held for 3 days, so that owners have an opportunity to claim lost animals. After 3-5 days the unclaimed/unadopted animals are released to CAPS' care, as space in our foster homes permit.
Animals released into the care of CAPS are immediately taken to the vet for a complete check-up and vaccinations. After a 10-14 day quarantine period in their foster home, the animal is spayed or neutered and ready for adoption!
With the introduction of this fostering/adoption program, which sees the municipal pound routinely emptied, CAPS helps save the lives of animals that would otherwise have been euthanized.
All of our animals are health-checked, vaccinated and spayed/neutered before being placed into loving homes. The minimum donation requested is $80 and $100 for adult cat and kitten adoptions, respectively, and $125 for dog adoptions. These donations allow us to care for the many other pets that come into our care on a regular basis.

At times, CAPS has so much going on with its special events, fundraisers, volunteer work at "the Farm", adoption fairs and all efforts in between that it's hard to keep track of everything. You are invited to keep watch over this section of the website for highlights from our various activities.
