OUR ADOPTABLE PET LIST!!!

Canine Compassion Is ...

... A specialized rescue group of volunteers dedicated to the medical and behavioral needs of each dog we take in. Our members are located throughout the greater Houston, Texas area.

As a “Foster Only” rescue, we operate by keeping the fostered dogs in homes only. There is no location to “come view” our dogs. Arrangements are made for approved applicants to meet with the dog they have applied to adopt.

The dogs this group takes in are fostered in our homes. They are loved just like our own dogs because they are our dogs until we determine the best match for a dog’s unique personality, size, and energy level.

Understanding Rescue ...

For those who do not know anything about the operation of a rescue group, please know that the dogs in a rescue organization are not in shelters, at risk of being euthanized.

All of the dogs this group takes in belong to us. Legally, each rescue dog is owned by the rescue group.

These dogs are in homes…...our homes. As soon as a dog is rescued by us, they are immediately seen by one of our vets. All medical needs are addressed ASAP. Every dog is altered (spayed or neutered), heartworm tested (treated if positive), and tested for parasites and treated if necessary.

We put our dogs on heartworm preventative and flea preventative and medical care is kept current for every dog.

Our dogs are groomed on a regular basis, socialized with all people, other dogs and sometimes cats - if our cats agree!

Adopting A Friend ~ Our Adoption Process

On each dog’s Petfinder profile page there is an e-mail contact. Please click on this link and ask us for an application for the specific dog you are interested in meeting and / or adopting.

Once an application is received, the vet's reference is checked - an excellent vet reference is required. A home visit by one of our volunteers is also required.

The final step is the signing of the adoption contract. The adopters are required to make an appointment with their vet for a "meet and greet" just to establish the new dog with their own vet.

** FUTURE **

If It's Not A Match ...

If an application is not selected as a match for a specific dog, our volunteers may suggest, at your requset, other options for adopting a dog.

With the many animal shelters and hundreds of rescue groups throughout the Houston area, people are sure to find a dog they will want to make part of their family.

We will only place our dogs with the people who we determine to best match our dogs’ sizes, personalities, and energy levels.

Recommended Feeding

All of our dogs are fed a raw diet formulated by Nature’s Variety. It is by far the best diet for your dog (and cat!) - in terms of overall health, skin coat, and dental health.

Please consider continuing to feed your new adopted family member a raw diet like Nature's Variety.

Please visit these websites for more information:

Recommended Feeding (con't.)

If the cost of feeding the Nature’s Variety raw diet is prohibitive for you, following is a list of veterinarian approved foods that are available at Petsmart or Petco stores:

  • Wellness
  • Solid Gold
  • Dick Van Patten Natural Balance
  • Innova
  • California Natural
  • Blue Buffalo

  • When you buy food for your pets, please read the ingredients. Stay away from foods that contain any of the following:

  • corn
  • wheat or
  • soy products

  • These ingredients are inflammatory and may cause harm to the body, especially the G.I. tract, and should be avoided.

Besides, when was the last time you heard of a wolf eating corn, wheat, or soy?

Thank You for supporting rescued dogs and the volunteers who save them!
