Who We Are

The Cabarrus Pets Society is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to make our community a better place by rescuing unwanted dogs. We vaccinate, spay or neuter, restore them to health, and find them loving, deserving, permanent homes. Our mission is to prevent unwanted pets by educating the public about responsible pet ownership to include the importance of spaying and neutering, vaccinating, and heartworm prevention. Our organization is staffed by volunteers dedicated to our mission of rescue and educating the community through both action and example.

Adopting a Friend

Our adoption fee for dogs and puppies will be $140.00. This fee includes all vaccines that the animal will need according to its age, up the the day of adoption. The adoption fee also includes heartworm testing and monthly heart worm prevention, monthly flea prevention, deworming, micro-chipping, and spay or neuter surgery at the Charlotte or Cabarrus Spay/Neuter Clinic. Should the animal need any other medical care during his or her time with us, it would also be included in the $140.00 adoption fee. After adoption, all medical care, with the exception of the spay/neuter surgery (in the case of a puppy that is too young to have the surgery before adoption), is the responsibility of the new guardian.

Our adoption process consists of an application and interview. We perform vet reference checks and reserve the right to perform a home visit for any adoption. Applications can be filled out at our Saturday Adopt-a-Pet events, but we suggest filling one out ahead of time if you see a particular pet you are interested in to give us time to review your application and call your vet. Filling out an application ahead of time saves time on Saturdays and makes it more likely that you will be able to take your new pet home with you the day you meet him or her. Click here for our application for canine (dog) adoption.

Come Visit Us!

We hold weekly Adopt-A-Pet events Saturdays from 10AM to 1PM at 207 S. Main St. in Kannapolis. Look for our signs out front. Parking is available in the rear, just pull in the driveway. We always have a good selection of dogs and puppies available for adoption, but all of our animals are housed in foster homes, so please contact us at least 2 days in advance so we can make sure the pet you're interested in is there to meet you.

How You Can Help

Spay and Neuter Your Pets - This is one of the most important things you can do as a responsible pet owner. It is the only way to control the huge dog and cat overpopulation problem in this area and the only way for us to realize our dream of not having any needy animals left to help. If you need information on low cost clinics that spay and neuter dogs and cats, please let us know! We would be happy to point you in the right direction. Do it today before your pet's offspring add to the number of unwanted pets.

Volunteer - We can always use extra hands walking dogs, cleaning up messes, taking digital pictures for our web site, and talking to potential adopters at our Saturday events. We also hold special events periodically throughout the year and extra volunteers are always appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering, please send us an email, or give us a call and let us know. You may also come to an Adopt-a-Pet event and tell one of us that you're interested in helping out.

Spread the Word - There are lots of ways you can help get the word out about CPS and what we do. It sounds like such a small thing, but if you tell even just two people about CPS and they tell two other people and so on, word will spread like wildfire, and the more people who know about us, the more people we can help match with the perfect pet! So, if you know of someone looking for a pet, tell them about us! Do you know of a business that would let you put a flier up about our available animals? Email us and we'd be happy to send you a flier you can print and hang up. Do you have a web site? Add a link to our site so more people can see our animals. If you'd like, we can provide the code for a "pet scroller" that you can put on your web page that shows all of our adopted animals. It's linked to petfinder, so it updates itself automatically when we add or remove our pets. Do you own or work at a pet-related business? We would be happy to give you some small fliers to hand out to interested clients who are looking to add to their furry family.

Become a Foster Parent - Our foster parents are an integral part of CPS. We don't have our own facility to house our animals, so without foster homes, there's nowhere for the animals to go! If you have the time and space to add another dog or puppy to your family temporarily, we'd love to hear from you! Some of our animals find homes in as little as 1-2 weeks. Others take several months and there are a special few that need to stay with us for up to a year being rehabilitated and looking for their perfect family. All of our foster families find the experience well worth the time. Please let us know if you would like more information on becoming an approved foster home for CPS.

Transportation - Some of our foster parents have a hard time getting their animals to the house on Saturdays. Volunteers drive these dogs and puppies to and from Adopt-a-Pet events each Saturday to give them a chance to look for forever homes. If you have a car and can volunteer a couple hours of your time on a Saturday, let us know and we'll pair you up with one or more of our wonderful foster animals!

Donations - Saving all our animals takes a lot of money. Supplies and monetary donations are always appreciated. We are a non-profit group, so all donations are tax-deductible. We accept donations by mail, in person at Adopt-a-Pet events, or via PayPal. Click here to donate now! Any donations received go straight to the care of our animals, whether through vaccines and vet care, food, or electricity to keep them cool in the summer and warm in the winter at our adoption events. We also accept donations of pet products. We can always use things like collars and leashes, and even toys for our dogs and puppies. If you're not sure what to get, but don't want to give us cash, consider a gift certificate to Cabarrus Animal Hospital or South Ridge Veterinary Hospital. If you have your own business and would consider putting out a donation can, let us know and we'll make sure to get one to you and assign someone to empty it periodically.

Go Grocery Shopping - Cabarrus Pets Society participates in Food Lion's Lion Shop & Share program. If you have a Food Lion MVP card, you can link it to CPS and a portion of all the money you spend on groceries will be donated to us. It's completely free for you! Click here if you would like to link your MVP card. (Please note that you may only support one organization through this program. Signing your card up for CPS will cancel any prior link you may have with another organization.)
