ABOUT CAAPS

Companion Animal Aid and Placement Society/Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CAAPS/SPCA) was established to save the lives of homeless and abandoned dogs and cats as well as those relinquished to CAAPS/SPCA by families who can no longer care for them, in the Palouse region. Our organization does not have a permanent shelter. All our companion animals live with temporary care givers until adoption; we operate a telephone help line and match companion animals with people. To meet our companion animals you and your family is/are invited to drive or fly to meet the companion animal you are interested in. Public education of spaying, neutering and otherwise caring for companion animals is one of our primary goals. We are an all volunteer, 501(C)(3), non-profit, charitable organization.

If you wish to donate time or money, or to become a foster parent/adopter/member, please e-mail unepierre@turbonet.com or call 208. 892-1720/208.669-0263.

REFERRAL INFORMATION

UPDATE 2009: WE ARE STILL PROVIDING THIS COURTESY SERVICE TO SEVERAL RESCUE GROUPS WHO DON'T HAVE A WEB PAGE AND HAVE AGREED TO SHARE WITH US ALL INFORMATION PROVIDED BY APPLICANTS. PLEASE NOTE AS OF MARCH 12, 2007, WE WILL BE UNABLE TO PROVIDE THIS COURTESY SERVICE, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. As a courtesy to people who are not able to participate formally in our program, we will list their companion animal(s) on our web site. One volunteer is in charge of Referrals: this task involves editing the information received, editing pictures to comply with Petfinder's requirements. This task may take 1 to 3 hours. We also post referral companion animals every week in local and regional newspapers. We answer all local and long distance phone calls as well as e-mails sent by prospective adopters. We are in contact with rescuers and foster persons daily or as frequently as required, until adoption. This process may take weeks or months. This assistance does not involve financial transaction.

Additional Information
All companion animals will be spayed or neutered if over four months old; otherwise, adopter have to agree to have this done. A $55.00 deposit will be charged in this case, refundable upon proof of neutering. Regardless of age, all pets will have had appropriate medical checkups prior to being made available for adoption. All potential adopters will be interviewed to determine the compatibility of people with the chosen companion animal. Home visits are scheduled at a time convenient to the potential guardian( s ) . If you have a companion animal who has to be relinquished, we will attempt to find a home for him/her. Our $15.00 relinquishing fee helps to cover our expenses: advertising, faxing pet lists, purchasing film, developing &/or uploading photos, providing food & utensils to foster parents ; we ask that you keep the companion animal in your home until a new home is found, if at all possible.

Hours are flexible; we are not always in, but you may attempt contact us between 9:00 a.m - 8:00 p.m; our e-mail is unepierre@turbonet.com or please call ( 208) 669-0263.
