Our Featured Pet...

Charlie has passed over to the Rainbow Bridge. We don't know what his past life was like, but the last few years were great. Here is a tribute written by one of his friends: The "Old Man" by Ruth Nagarya We'll miss you dear Charlie, we want you to know You were so special to the humans below Older but wiser, sickly that's true Stately and kind, the "Old Man" were you! We see you in heaven running around Leaping and happily covering the ground. Joyfully you run with a gleam in your eye Your strength all back, you feel you can fly! Grateful to a kennel and a lady so dear Giving food and shelter, security with no fear A special place to lay your head at night Secure in the knowledge that you were "all right" God bless you dear Charlie Run free and happy! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charlie is a great old boy that needs a loving home where he can finish out his time. He is a sweet, sweet boy who can't hear a thing. He is no problems what so ever. He is very healthy, but on pain meds for stiffness when needed. Someone loved him before he was lost. Update 7/04 - Charlie is still here and going strong. He's a happy boy who loves being in the house. Outside he runs with his head and tail high. Every morning he "checks out" the entire fence line around six acres. He rolls in the deepest grass and smiles a lot. He's a good one.

Who We Are

Rescues come in from many different backgrounds. Some come from kill shelters directly off of death row. Often it is the very day they were scheduled to lose their lives. Others are turned in by their owners for so many different reasons. Every once in awhile one comes from a breeder who doesn't want the dog any longer as it has gone over size for showing, is not a good enough specimen for showing, or it is done with it's show / breeding career. Often times the dogs that come in here are ones other rescues can not or do not want to deal with. Dogs are not just housed here. They go through a lot before they are even made available for adoption. The first thing is getting them on good food and supplements, getting cleaned up which includes de-fleaing, de-ticking, bathing, nails, ears, teeth, anal gland, and professional styling. They are evaluated for health, temperament, habits, and personality. They immediately start socialization with other dogs and people. They are brought up to date on all shots, wormed, neutered, microchipped, tested for heartworms then either put on preventative or treated to become heartworm free, if anything else looks to be a possible problem for them they get the appreciate testing and treatment done. As health and condition permit behavior modification and/or training starts. What is done varies with each dog. At the least they are taught to respond to their name, house trained, crate trained, taught to behave with other dogs and people, and given "canine good citizen" and "manner" training, and to behave properly in the car. If a problem with men surfaces, Rodger takes great pains working with them. He does a lot of snuggling with them so they learn that men are not all the same. At a point that varies for each dog they are made available for adoption. All rescues that are adopted through Independent Brittany Rescue & Rehabilitation will get lifetime help on any behavior or health issue. Each dog has a requested adoption donation that varies with each dog depending on the costs and work taken with that particular dog. This allows us to continue to help other dogs. All adoption donations go directly back to the dogs for food, supplements, vet care, housing, grooming, and training. As this is a private rescue there are no administrative costs coming out of the donation. Interested homes must fill out an adoption application which is sent upon request, references are checked, and homes are approved before moving on in the adoption process. Many dogs are adopted from here before even being made available to the general population. Many folks come back to get a second to be a companion to their first rescue. Once made available most don't go long before getting new families. All private donations of money, dog food, crates, crate rugs and pads, treats, chews, and other dog supplies is greatly appreciated.

Adopting a friend

There is an adoption application that must be filled out and returned, an adoption contract that must be agreed to and signed, an adoption donation, a home check, references checks, and visits to meet the dog you are interested in to make sure you are a match.
