Have a BALL with a rescued Border Collie!

News Foster homes and other volunteers are needed!

Who We Are

We are a small rescue, helping rehome adoptable border collies in Nova Scotia and other Maritime provinces. We are dog owners with experience with border collies and other breeds. Our dogs are involved in dog sports, obedience training and are family pets. We are not breeders, but we work closely with reputable breeders. Our experience with border collies and rescued border collies is extensive, and we work with experienced dog trainers to augment our knowledge of and evaluations of dogs in our rescue program. We also work with shelters and other rescues to help place dogs and help adopters find the right dogs for them. Our biggest goal is making good matches for the dogs and new families. We work with all potential adopters to help them find a dog who is a good match for their needs and lifestyle. We love to hear about our past adoptees and encourage adopters to keep in touch (especially with pics!) We love dogs of all types - but especially border collies. If you are interested in fostering or adopting a border collie, please contact us by email at bordercollie.ns@gmail.com (you will have to cut and paste or retype our address) . We do not have a shelter facility, but foster dogs in our homes and volunteer's homes in order to evaluate and responsibly place the dogs. We also work with other local rescues and you will often see other breeds listed here, and the occasional cat!

Frequently asked questions

Do you have puppies for adoption?

We see less puppies that young adult/adult border collies in rescue, but we do occasionally have rescue puppies available. Older dogs also make great pets. They are just like puppies, just without the chewing & housetraining stages. We recommend that if you are looking for a puppy to submit an application for preapproval, we often can place puppies without advertising them on our site. We can also help you locate reputable breeders.

Do you adopt outside of Nova Scotia?

Yes. Some of our previously adopted dogs are in Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and other areas. If you adopt from outside the area, you are responsible for any transportation charges.

Where can we see your dogs?

Our dogs are in private foster homes, we do not have a shelter. Please contact us for an application. Once we have screened your application & had an interview with you, we can arrange meetings with our foster dogs.

Adopting a border collie In order to provide the best matches possible, our screening process includes an application, interview and home visit. Animals are spayed or neutered before placement. Adopters must be over 18 years of age. We recommend formal obedience training with adopted dogs. Formal obedience helps new owners to bond with their new canine family member, and also helps nip (no pun intended :-)) any behavior problems before they happen. In the Halifax area we recommend Lietash (www.lietash.com) for obedience and dog sports. Border collies excel at dog sports like flyball, agility, and much more, and are a great way for dog and owner to have fun.
Looking for a new home for your Border Collie?

We are a small rescue and do not have a shelter facility. Whenever we can, we will take adoptable border collies and place them in foster homes while we look for forever homes for them. We also assist owners place their own dogs by screening potential adopters and helping to make the best match for the dogs.

Border collies are very sensitive creatures, and any change is very hard on them. We encourage you to try and work through any issues that you and your border collie may have before looking for a new home. If you are at your wit's end, and want to keep your border collie, but need help, we can help you by providing advice and references to trainers and other experts. If your border collie needs a new home, please contact us and we will try to help. We have a surrender process which we use to help get as much info on the dog as possible, and we take responsibility for the life of any dogs we place - if any dogs we have placed are for some reason unable to stay in their adoptive home, they are to be returned to us, where we evaluate and place them.

Spay & Neuter

Many wonderful border collies are abandoned, dumped and euthanized every year. Breeding should be left to the responsible, experienced breeders, not pet owners. Please, spay and neuter your pets so that they don’t contribute to the pet overpopulation problem.

Rescued border collies come in all colors and ages.

Rescue a dog, save a life.
