We Have Been Adopted

Cat of the Month ~Natalie & Alex~

Intake Date: 8/14
Available Date: 8/14
Age: 2.5 yrs
Felv / Fiv NEGATIVE: YES
Litter Trained: Yes
Declawed: No
Intake Reason: Surrendered due failing health of owner
Type of Home Needed: Indoor
Adoption Fee: $25.00 each
Natalie and Alex are two of the sweetest kitties you will EVER meet. They have now been in the shelter for THREE MONTHS, and it's just not fair that they should have to spend one more day without a home. These girls were surrendered to the shelter because their owner became ill and was unable to care for them anymore. It is very difficult to find a home for two adult cats together, but if you spent 5 minutes with these girls you would know that they could not survive without eachother. Right now, they share a large cage where they have their own miniature couch to sleep on, and they keep the shelter staff constantly amused because they LOVE snuggling, wrestling, and hanging upside down from that little couch! These girls are perfectly littertrained and have always been indoor kitties. PLEASE give them a chance to steal a little piece of your heart...and your couch!

Dog of the Month ~Millie
SO SWEET

Intake Date: 9/17
Available Date: 9/22
Reason for intake: Stray
Known Health Issues: N/A
Approximate age: 1 yr
Approximate weight: 40 lbs
Housebroken? Unknown
Recommended Age of Children: ANY, sweet Heart!
Good w/ other dogs? Yes
Good with cats: Unknown
Energy Level: Moderate, very eager to please
Adoption Fee: $85
Millie is one of the sweetest puppies in the shelter! She has LOTS of energy and would do best in a home where she has a fenced yard to exercise in or a family with a VERY active lifestyle! Millie loves other dogs and has never met a stranger! This dog LOVES to play with toys and wrestle with her room mate, and we think that she would make a really excellent family pet! Millie needs some basic obedience training and does have a tendency to jump sometimes when she gets excited, so she is not recommended to go to a home with SMALL children. Please consider adopting Millie and making her the happiest pup in the world! She really deserves a second chance!

Save A Life & Sponsor A Shelter Pet

Our shelter always has animals in need of medical care & we always need help funding their treatments or injuries. Please view our site & animals that have ~NEED HELP~ next to their names are ones that NEED YOU!!!!!!! Right now, we have several dogs waiting for funding for heartworm treatments, people normally will not adopt a dog that comes w/ medical baggage & your donations help us, make them, more adoptable. These treatments range from $80 to $300 to treat. These are loving, adoptable animals, but they need extra money & Tender Loving Care to be able to be adopted. Please if you can donate $5.00 to help one of these animals, please do! Every little bit adds up & creates a 100% chance of these animals finding a FOREVER HOME! Thank you!

Who We Are

The Humane Society is an independent, non-profit agency contracted by Warren County to operate the animal shelter, which we moved into in 1983. The Humane Society is not a department of city or county government. The city and county own the shelter building. The Humane Society receives funds from city and county governments to operate the shelter. This funding is used to pay for management/employee salaries, utility bills, cleaning supplies/chemicals, euthanasia solution, cat litter, fuel for rescue vehicles and building repairs/maintenance. Humane Society DONATIONS are used to pay for medical care of sick and injured animals, animal cages, incidental supplies such as food/water bowls, dog/cat treats, canned cat/dog food, dog/cat toys, supplies for fund raisers and education/outreach programs. Hill's Pet Products donates dog, cat, kitten and puppy food.

We were lucky enough to open a second building in 2004 called the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society Adoption Center. This building has allowed us to save thousands of lives that we would NOT have been able to save otherwise. This building is COMPLETELY funded by donations, we recieve no city/county funding. In February, 2007, we dedidated our Adoption Center to Mr. Bill Hildreth and the Hildreth family. The Hildreth family founded the original Humane Society many years ago. Bill continued to support our shelter throughout his entire life. Unfortunately, Mr. Hildreth lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, September 1st, 2007. We have lost a tremendous part of our family, and we will ALWAYS be grateful to him and his family. We will love you always Mr. Hildreth!

The Humane Society's mission is to provide a clean comfortable shelter for homeless, abused, lost and impounded animals of our community; to place as many of these animals as possible in loving and responsible homes and humanely euthanize those not adopted; to investigate complaints of animal abuse/neglect; and to educate the public about responsible care of companion animals, ESPECIALLY SPAY/NEUTER!

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities
We need more volunteers to walk dogs and spend time with the animals at the shelter. Many dogs are housebroken, but don't even get out once a day. Other dogs could become housebroken if they were taken out each day. A form is used to keep track of which dogs have been out each day. We would like volunteers to schedule their time so there are enough volunteers each day. Volunteer manuals are available at the shelter and online. It is helpful if you can read the volunteer and shelter help manuals before volunteering. New volunteers need to schedule an orientation and/or be matched with an experienced volunteer.

We have started an online volunteer group to help volunteers communicate with each other and keep informed of shelter needs. It includes a message board, links to other sites, photos, volunteer manuals and other files to download, and photos. You will need to complete a short information email before being approved for the group.

Youth Volunteers-Volunteers Under 18

You must be 18 or over to fill out an online application or join the online volunteer group. Volunteers under 18 must come to shelter with parent or guardian to complete volunteer application and sign liability form. All volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian with them when volunteering at the shelter. Parents or guardians would need to attend orientation and training when required for certain activities. We hope to have more volunteer opportunities for youth in the future.

If you are interested in helping , please fill out one of our online volunteer applications!!! If you are in another state but want to help w/ transporting animals to rescue & forever homes, please fill one out!

We are in the process of trying to organize our volunteers
