Our Mission

All Gods Creatures Rescue (AGCR) is an all breed animal rescue in Southern KY, dedicated to finding homes for animals who need relocating and those who are at risk for euthanasiation in shelters or humane societies. We are able to take in dogs, cats, small breeds of birds (cockatiels, budgies, etc.) rabbits, and other small animals (chinchillas, hamsters etc.) We will do what we can to help any animal in need, however, so please contact us if you need to find a new home for your pet, regardless of species. We believe that it is our God-given responsibility to be caretakers of all God's creatures (Genesis 1:28) and that he cares for even the smallest of His creation (Mat 10:29, Luke 12:24). We are committed to saving the lives of animals already in humane societies by temporarily adopting them and giving them a safe place to stay while we find homes for them, and to keeping animals out of humane societies and shelters by taking in animals that owners can no longer care for. All of these animals are kept inside of our home, and most of them are housebroken (when applicable) and taught some basic obedience before leaving us. We work very hard to help these animals meet their maximum potential and find their "forever homes." We desire that each these animals find their life-long friends through us, and that they are given the love and attention they need for the rest of their lives.

Adopting A Friend

Every animal that comes to us is extensively temperament tested, and we do our best to get a full history of every animal we bring into our program. We sincerely wish that we could take in ALL animals who need new homes, but we are not able to and so we are very meticulous about the animals we bring in. We have four children ourselves, so we take great measures to ensure that the pets we have available are non-aggressive and have great personalities. Because they have lived with us before being adopted, all of our pets are either fully housebroken (when applicable) or on their way toward that goal, and they are taught some house-manners (i.e. not to eat off the kitchen table or dig through the trash!) You will also have the benefit of getting an animal that is the PERFECT match for you and your family, due to the time we’ve spent living with them and finding out just who they are.

Before you adopt, an application must be filled out and we require both personal and vet references. (If this will be your first time owning a pet it is understood that you do not have a vet reference, and that will be taken into consideration.) It is also MANDATORY that our animals are signed up with a veterinarian of your choice within two weeks of adoption, and kept up to date with routine healthcare. We want to be sure that any pet adopted from us goes to a good home where he or she is well cared for.

We believe that “a worker is worthy of his wages” (Luke 10:7). Therefore, we require an adoption fee on each of our pets, which varies depending on the animal. This is used to pay for the vetting received, and also to reimburse us for our time and efforts as well as that of our volunteers. Our main goal, however, is to find these pets GOOD HOMES, so if you cannot afford the adoption fee, please contact us anyway and we will try to work something out together.

Each of our pets recieve veterinary treatment before going home, and any pet adopted through us will recieve the following:

Health Check performed by a Licenced Veterinarian
Heartworm/FeLV test (when applicable)
All necessary vaccinations, including rabies
1st dose of Frontline flea/tick medication (when applicable)
2 months of Shelter Care Pet Insurance, prepaid

Dogs will also receive:

1st dose of heartworm preventative
One free obedience lesson with a professional trainer

If you are interested in one of our animals, please email us and we will send you an adoption application and answer any questions you may have about the pet you are interested in.

Come Visit Us!

(We know he's running backwards. Maybe he was just so excited about going home he got confused.) ;)

We are located in Southern Kentucky. Our goal is to match you with the perfect pet. The dog that might be perfect for you, might not be the “small, white poodle” that you’re looking for. That little poodle may chew on furniture and bark all night long, while our big black lab would be great with your children and love your cat. We therefore require that BEFORE visiting these animals, you fill out an adoption application so that we can assess exactly what you are looking for in a pet, and try to match that. If we think we have a pet that is right for you, we will contact you with the information we have on that animal, and if you are interested, you can come by and see it. We do not give out the addresses of any of our volunteers for fear that people will either come by unannounced or mistake us for a shelter and drop animals off at our locations.

If You Cannot Keep Your Pet

If you have a pet who is in need of a home, please contact us and we will do our best to find a placement for him/her either through us or with another rescue organization. We don't want to see ANY animal end up in a shelter who doesn't have to!

(Please understand that due to our limited resources you may be asked to complete some vet work on your pet before we take him or her into our program. If this is something you are not able to do, please contact us anyway and we will see what we can do to find help for you.)

What You Should Know About "Free To Good Home" Ads

Pictured in the photo above is Brutus, a beautiful black lab. This picture was taken by "Mark," Brutus' owner, before he was given away "Free To Good Home."

Mark's company was transferring him to a different state and Mark considered it unfair to take Brutus away from his happy indoor/outdoor life and make him stay in an apartment. Mark loved Brutus and wanted to try to find him a home where he could live happily for the rest of his days. So, like many people do, he took out an ad in the newspaper for his dog to go to a good home for free. He didn't want to make any money off of Brutus, he just wanted him to find a great home. Mark screened the people who called as best he could, and met with them before sending Brutus to a new home where Mark thought he would be very happy.

This is a photo of Brutus's new home. Little did Mark know, Brutus was now living on the end of a two-foot chain tied to a rope collar, in a garbage-filled backyard, with no water dish or food bowl anywhere in sight. Pictured in this photo is a sweet, loving dog who is now 20 pounds underweight, suffering from dehydration, malnutrition, fleas, intestinal worms, mange, fly-chewed ears, heartworm, and, worst of all, neglect.

Luckily for him, neighbors eventually called an Animal Aid volunteer, who arrived accompanied by a policeman. His new owner was arrested, charged, and convicted with cruelty to animals. Unfortunately, he paid a fine which probably equalled less than Brutus's medical bills.

Did you know:

1) People value what they pay for. Pets obtained for free are are less likely to be spayed or neutered by their new owners (why bother with vet bills?), and more likely to be abused and/or discarded, because "there are plenty more where that came from!" A recent study at one animal shelter yielded the startling statistic that 51% of all dogs whos owners turned them in had been purchsed for less than $100; 41% of the dogs whos owners turned them in had been obtained "Free to good home." In otherwords, when you place your dog in a newspaper ad for "free to good home" your dog has a VERY good chance of being brought to a shelter later on.

2) So-called "Bunchers" gather free pets until they have enough for a trip to a Class B Dealer who is licensed by the USDA to sell to sell animals from "random sources" for research. The Buncher may only get $25 a head for former pets, while a dealer can between $100 - $450 per pet. The Class B dealer probably already has a contract with certain facilities, and will transport them to other areas within a state, even out of state.

3) Free animals are often taken to "blood" pit-bulls--to train fighting dogs how to kill, and to enjoy it. This can be dogs and cats, of any size. Often, a larger dog's muzzle will be duct-taped shut so that he can't bite back, and the fighting dog will gain confidence in killing a dog larger than he is.

4) One "adoptor" in this area took free kittens to his "good home"--as dinner for a pet snake.

5) Unspayed or unneutered pure-bred dogs may end up as "breeding stock" in a puppy mill. One woman was certain that if she didn't give away her Dalmatians' AKC registration papers along with the dogs, she could keep them safe from millers. Wrong. Unscrupulous breeders, who use puppies as cash crops like other farmers raise cattle, pigs, or chickens, aren't above forging registration papers, or using those from deceased dogs. .

PLEASE don't give your pet away for free. If you cannot find a rescue who can take your pet, please charge something when you go to find him/her a home. If you are uncomfortable asking for money, then have the adopter make out a check to your local humane society or rescue group. This donation will not only help to ensure your pet finds a good home, but will help your local shelter, too. We would be happy to send you a copy of our adoption application in order to assist you with screening your applicants. But the best protection for your pet is ensuring that the adopter pay for him! Remember: PEOPLE VALUE WHAT THEY PAY FOR!
