Welcome!
Burlington County Animal Alliance is a private,
independent, 501(3)(c)
nonprofit animal advocacy group, that was founded in 1999 by Lorraine
Schrieber and Barb Giano who have a love for animals. To date, we have
around 60 members of BCAA. We focus primarily on rescue and adoption of
shelter dogs and cats from the Burlington County Animal Shelter Center
and surrounding areas in New Jersey. Our main focus is to make the
public aware of the numbers of homeless dogs and cats there are in
shelters and to promote adoption of these animals. We advocate spaying
and neutering of all companion animals to counteract the overpopulation
of dogs and cats and to end the tragedy of euthanizing healthy,
unwanted companion pets.
In 2004, BCAA was awarded a Proclamation
from the Freeholders of Burlington County for the outstanding work we
do to help the homeless animals of Burlington County, including keeping
the Shelter Website up to date and also rescuing the animals that are
in sick and/or in danger of being euthanized because of lack of space
and money.
On Oct 4, 2004, BCAA was invited to share in the
Groundbreaking
Ceremony for the new expansion of the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
The expansion will house 50 more dogs and 50 more cats. In attendance
were the Burlington County Freeholders, the Burlington County Heath
Department, Burlington County Animal Shelter Staff, along with some of
our BCAA volunteers.
Burlington County Animal Shelter July 25, 2006.
The Burlington County Animal Alliance and
Freeholder Dawn Marie Addiego
were the driving forces behind the expansion, which increased the
facility's size from 5,500 to 9,000 square feet.
BCAA received a Proclamation for the work they do in
helping save the animals of Burlington County. "A heartfelt thanks,"
Alliance volunteer Pat Kelly told Addiego and other freeholders.
Burlington County Animal Alliance is a non-profit
organization. All
donations are tax deductible. Below are just some of the ways you can
help us continue to save the dogs and cats in and around Burlington
County. When donating, please indicate which Program you would like to
sponsor.
Burlington County Animal Alliance needs volunteers
to foster care the
dogs and cats that we save and take into our program that run out of
time in the shelters. We also need volunteers to transport animals to
various locations, including other Rescues, Foster Homes, Vet
Appointments and Adoption Events. BCAA has fundraisers throughout the
year to raise money for our medical fund, so we can continue to save
the animals of Burlington County and other surrounding areas of NJ. We
also do Home Visits for each animal we adopt out and we need volunteers
to help with this. BCAA also holds a weekly pet adoption day at
PetsMart in Moorestown, NJ every Saturday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. At
times, BCAA fosters dogs in kennels that need to be picked up for our
adoption days and also, some foster homes have multiple dogs that need
to be held at these events. If you are interested in helping the
Burlington County Animal Alliance, please submit your volunteer
questionnaire for review.

No matter how hard we try, there are just
not enough homes for all the
shelter dogs and cats. This is where Foster Homes come in and play such
a special role in saving a life of a dog or cat who would have
otherwise been euthanized. Fostering is one of the most rewarding
experiences you can have. Think about what you are giving back to a dog
or a cat that has been neglected or abused or is no longer wanted. You
are offering love and patience which they may have never had
experienced before. By providing a safe place for them to be socialized
and loved, you are adding time for this animal to be discovered by a
human looking for companionship. BCAA will pay for the medical needs as
authorized by BCAA. If you can foster a homeless dog or cat please
submit your volunteer questionnaire for review.

If there is a particular animal on our
Website that touches your heart,
you can become their Guardian Angel. By donating to their foster care
and medical costs, you not only help this animal physically, but, you
will be part of their healing process in their heart. These abandoned
animals ask for so little, but give so much in return. A tender touch,
a soft voice, a good meal, or a nice warm place to put their head at
night is all they want. Knowing that there is a person out there that
loves them is priceless. Our Guardian Angel Program allows you to
provide support for a specific dog that touches your heart.
So many people love animals and would like
to adopt, but for different
reasons cannot. If you love animals, but cannot have one, you can still
be a part of saving the life of a homeless dog or cat. Help stop the
overpopulation of animals and become a Spay/Neuter Sponsor. By
donating, you can be part of the solution.
It is an everyday effort to keep the
Burlington County Animal Alliance
running - caring for, healing, loving and nourishing hundreds of sick,
injured, frightened, abandoned or mistreated animals each year. It is a
true labor of love, manifested over and over in a million small acts of
kindness every day. BCAA does not receive any government funding. Our
support comes directly from you and it goes directly to the dogs. Our
gratitude to the supporters who share our philosophy and supports our
efforts and goals is heartfelt. Together we are a powerful symbol of
kindness, love and mercy.
We could not save the number of dogs and
cats that we do or
have such an incredible effect on the lives of animals in our area if
it were not for you. Please help us to continue our goals. You make
this work possible and we thank you every day.

Please read carefully before proceeding to the
Application Form. This
page describes our adoption policies and will answer most of your
questions about our adoption process. Thank you.
- The application process begins with the
Adoption
Application. Anyone wishing to adopt must first fill out an Adoption
Application Form.
- Please be sure to fill out the Adoption
Application completely. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Upon
receipt, your application will be reviewed by the foster home of the
animal you applied for. If the application appears to be a good match
for the pet of interest, then that person will contact you, via email
or telephone.
- A vet check, phone interview and home visit are
required.
The responsibility of BCAA is to adopt the animals we save into the
best possible homes.
- If you are in the process of changing
veterinarians, we
still require the name of your former veterinarian. This allows us to
verify a history and habit of proper veterinary care. If you do not
have a vet because this is your first animal you wish to adopt, then a
personal reference is required.
- Families with young children who apply to adopt
a dog must
have a secured fence in their yard. This requirement ensures the safety
of the dog, by preventing him/her from running out into the street or
otherwise leaving the yard. This also ensures the safety of the
children, who might otherwise run after the dog into the street.
- Please recognize that being first to apply for
adopting a
certain animal does not guarantee that you will be approved to adopt
that animal. We do not work on a first-come first-served basis, but
rather, try at all times to find the best match possible between the
animal and adopting home.
- Once you have submitted your application,
please allow us
time to process it. We are an all-volunteer group, so please be
patient.
- If the application review is favorable, we will
contact you
to schedule a time to come out to your home. The reason for the home
visit is to make sure that you can provide a safe environment for the
pet. We ask that other family members or people who live in the
household be present so that we can meet them and answer any questions
about pet ownership.
- Once the home visit is completed and the
adoption approved,
we will contact you to schedule a time finalize the adoption, sign the
BCAA Contract, and bring the animal to his or her new home. All
placements are accompanied by follow-ups on the animal's progress from
time to time.
- If you meet the criteria of BCAA, please
proceed here. Adoption
Application
**PLEASE NOTE: All adoptions are accompanied by an
adoption contract,
along with a set adoption donation. This donation is tax deductible and
helps to defray the medical cost to get your companion animal ready for
adoption. The adopter agrees on basic, reasonable ownership precepts,
which include the dog or cat will live indoors, will not be used for
working or fighting purposes, will not be altered cosmetically in any
way, including declawing, and who will be returned to BCAA, the
rescuer, should the dog ever need to be surrendered.
