Looziana Basset Rescue, Inc. is closingDear LBR Supporters: It is with great sadness that I announce that Looziana Basset Rescue, Inc. will be closing after 10 years of operation. Too many dogs, too few volunteers, too many problems and not enough money. I just can't do it anymore. Business will continue as usual until all dogs are placed. Dogs that we cannot place will become permanent foster dogs, with LBR taking care of them for the rest of their lives. No corners will be cut at this time. No hasty adoptions will be done either. If any of you want to band together to form another basset rescue, I am here to support you. You will continue to see new dogs added to the website for awhile because I have committed to 4 more. Also, we will always take back any dog that we have placed if the adoption does not work out. Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to the rescue over the years, especially Dr. Brian Melius of Metairie Small Animal Hospital for being the rescue's veterinarian from the beginning. LBR could not have continued as long as it did without Dr. Brian. Also, sincere thanks to all of our foster families, volunteers, donors and adopters. I appreciate your support, willingness to help and understanding of the mission. This was a very difficult and emotional decision for me and one that was not made without trying to explore other possibilities to keep the group alive, but, in the end, Looziana Basset Rescue has to close its doors. I will continue my work with animals. I am not turning my back on them. My attention now will be focused on creating more opportunities for high volume, low cost, spay/neuter. This is the only thing that is going to stop the endless flow of homeless animals. We currently have 26 dogs left in rescue. 4 of these have adoptions pending and 2 are permanent fosters, which leaves us with 20 dogs that need to be placed. Of these 20, 8 are going through heartworm treatment and 7 are boarding and need foster homes until they are adopted. There are 3 ways that people can help: Thanks again to all of you for everything that you did for LBR. Best regards, |

Fostering a Basset in NeedHurricane Katrina took many things when she ravaged this area, including more than half of our active foster homes. To continue accepting dogs in need, we need more foster homes. Looziana Basset Rescue pays for all vet expenses, all we ask is that foster homes provide food and love to these wonderful dogs. Please email QueenB534@aol.com if you are interested in fostering. |

Adopting a FriendWhen you've looked at all the great animals here and chosen one that you'd like to meet face-to-muzzle, contact us. We'll get an adoption application to you quick as a hungry basset. Then we'll do everything we can to get you and your chosen hound together for an introduction. To ensure that you and the pet you select are ideal for each other, we'll give you some time after the introduction to think about it. As of March 2009 our adoption fee is $275. This includes spay/neuter, all shots, fecal and worming, microchip, heartworm test and treatment, if necessary, and all other veterinary care that is needed. The average amount that we invest in each dog is around $700, so this is quite a bargain. Looziana Basset Rescue has an extensive adoption process as well as adoption agreement. Please contact us at QueenB534@aol.com. |

How to Help the HoundsWe realize that parting you from your hard-earned dollars is becoming more difficult every day. While we still like to receive monetary donations toward the veterinary care of bassets in Looziana Basset Rescue foster homes, we also have a few items available for sale. You can be sure that every penny beyond our cost for these items is used as efficiently as possible to take care of bassets needing medical attention.
