CONNECTICUT'S
BIGGEST & BEST
SELECTION OF PETS!!

...and not just pits!!!

It's that time of year......License your Dog! If your dog is over six months of age, State of Connecticut law requires that you license your dog. Dog licenses are issued throughout the year; however, renewal of current licenses takes place during the month of June. A current rabies certificate is required to license your dog. To receive a reduced licensing fee proof of spaying or neutering is required. If the date of the rabies certificate on the renewal notice has passed, an updated certificate will need to be presented before a license can be issued. The current licensing fees are as follows: Dog Licensing Fees Spayed or Neutered $8.00 NOT Spayed or Neutered $19.00 Per Month penalty for late registration $1.00

Our Favorite Dog!

My poor Lucy Goosey Girl! She's had a terrible life. She was used for breeding and then thrown away.
She came here very sick, skinny, stressed out so bad that all of her hair started falling out and completely unsocialized.
She had pneumonia and she could barely move. We brought her straight to our vet for treatment and then I brought her home to nurse her back to health.
At the vet, we also learned that the person who had her shaved all of her teeth so she couldn't bite.
She has been with me for a month already and she is doing so much better.
She is all better from her pneumonia. She still has a little cough but she is on meds for it.
Her hair is starting to grow back and she has learned a few things too.
When she first arrived at my house she didn't know how to walk on a leash, go to the bathroom outside or go up or down stairs.
She was actually scared of my tv the first time she saw it.
Since then she has learned that the leash is not a bad thing, that outside is ok especially with her coat on, and that stairs are not scary.
She is starting to get along with my other dog except when food is around.
I have given her many toys but she really doesn't know what to do with them.
She is scared of the sqeakers. She hated my cats but now she is learning to deal with them and not chase them anymore.
She really needs a good home with someone that will take the time out to teach her the rights and wrongs with patience.
She is very smart and learns very quickly. Looking for a warm and loving home

From Dog Catcher to Animal Control Officer

The Animal Control Division was established in 1935
when there was a Dog Warden, but in 1991 it was renamed Animal Control
due to the arrival of the rabies virus which had been steadily moving up the East Coast.
An Animal Control Officer is charged with catching stray or loose dogs, cats,
and sometimes other animals, and bringing them to a shelter where the animals are held
for a certain time before being returned to their owners, put up for adoption or euthanized.
(Any dog impounded at the Bridgeport Animal Control Facility will be advertised in the lost and found section of the Connecticut Post.
Seven(7) days from the advertisement date, the dog will go up for adoption.)
Animal control officers are also responsible for investigating incidents of human contact with both
wild and domestic animals, such as bites.
They usually work with Health Departments to ensure the health of humans injured by animals.
The term "Dogcatcher" does have its place in history!
There are variations of the title,"I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher"
or "He couldn't run for dogcatcher in this country"
refers to an individual so poorly regarded that the individual in question
is not fit to be elected to even a trivial position of public trust.
But in fact the role of the Animal Control Officer has changed over the past few decades.
Gone are the days of the big bad "dog catcher".
Today's ACO focuses more on educating the public on proper animal care,
and rescuing animals from dangerous or abusive situations.
