Lucy update. We would be grateful to anyone that would like to sponsor Lucy to help us defray some of her medical bills. You can just click on the "Sponsor" button on her write-up under adoptable pets. We brought Lucy to the vet for a thorough examination and x-rays. The x-rays showed that the injury she had as a pup was actually a spinal cord injury which is affecting her back legs at times(possibly a compressed nerve root). The x-ray did not show any puppy skeletons which should be there if she is 6-7 weeks pregnant. The vet could not palpate her abdomen to feel if she was pregnant because the hernia she has is so large and lumpy from botched surgeries in Iraq he wouldn’t be able to feel anything. Bottom line is, if she is pregnant, she’s only a couple of weeks along . We are going to contact an orthopedic surgeon to see if we can do anything for her back . We will most likely be spaying her this week. She most likely is not pregnant, probably finishing coming through “a heat cycle” and it wouldn’t be fair to let her carry a litter when her back legs are bothering her due to her spine injury. It would be a lot different if she were 6-7 weeks pregnant but that is now not the case. More important, we want to find out what the spine injury will do to her long term. Lucy is also food aggressive at this point, not with the person feeding her, but if anyone else is near her she might go after them. It is a problem that we believe is correctible and related to what and how she was being fed in Iraq, but it is an issue that we are working on. She is a beautiful, sweet and loving baby otherwise. She is also doing great in her foster home. Lucy just came back from Elite Pet Salon Groomers. She was very well behaved even though she was afraid of the dryer, she was a trooper (and she looks beautiful). Elite Pet Salon was wonderful with her and would not accept any money from us and we want to thank them for their generosity.

We want to thank Williams and Stuart Realty for holding a Columbus Day fundraiser, all the bikers that joined us for our first run, all golfers at out 11th tournament and all of our wonderful supporters that send donations thrioughout the year! We couldn't have done it without you!

Who We Are

Animals Depend On People Too, Inc., a not-for-profit volunteer organization is a group of animal lovers dedicated to helping stray, abandoned, homeless and injured animals at the Cranston Animal Shelter and throughout the state. Some of us have been involved as volunteers with the Cranston Animal Shelter for the last twenty-five years. We original volunteers saw a need to enhance on what we were able to do to help the vast number of homeless pets coming through the City Shelter. Thus, A.D.O.P.T. was born. For the last fourteen years our organization has been helping homeless pets by providing necessary life-saving veterinary care. Numerous companion pets have been given a second chance at life due to our efforts. We also provide specialized food and supplies when needed and educate the public to the need for the humane treatment and care of animals and the importance of spaying and castration. We help to connect people giving up pets with families looking for new four-legged family members. We also assist pet owners with catastrophic, overwhelming veterinary bills. Without our help these pets may not survive. Only with your help can we continue to provide needed care to the less fortunate companion animals and their families in our communities. We are in the business to help those who cannot help or heal themselves. Our major fundraising events are Pet Photos with Santa, Rudolph & Frosty, the original Pet Photos With the Easter Bunny and our Golf Tournament in May. Your donations also help us with vaccines such as rabies, distemper/Parvovirus, Feline Leukemia testing, Heartworm testing, etc in addition to the numerous spays, neutering, Heartworm treatments, parvo and upper respiratory treatments along with other medical treatments given to homeless pets in need. We spent over $18,000 on medical care alone last year. We have also helped many family pets throughout the state this year. Every dollar that you can spare helps us in our cause. We could never have accomplished what we have without your support. Please remember us through your payroll deductions. Our United Way Number is 4818
