Peacemaking We Can Learn From Dogs

1. Never pass up on the opportunity to go for a joy ride. 2. Allow the experience of fresh air & the wind in your face to be pure ectasy. 3. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. 4. When it's in your best interest, practice obedience. 5. Let others know when they have invaded your territory. 6. Take naps and stretch before rising. 7. Run, romp, and play daily. 8. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. 9. Be loyal. 10. Never pretend to be something you're not. 11. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. 12. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close, nuzzle them gently. 13. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. 14. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. 15. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. 16. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body. 17. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. 18. No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout. The Sanctuary: in the heart of New York State is the home of Victory Farm. A cageless haven for homeless animals needing a temporary respite until a forever home is found or lifetime care for the cast-off's of human society, those that are too traumatized, lame or ill. Our future: we will celebrate our 5th year anniversary in 2007 and although we have achieved alot we hope to inspire the public to get involved...imagine a world where every homeless animal feels loved, safe and celebrated, a world where inspiration, collaboration and dedication paves the way for a selfless society. Pay-it-Forward: support your local shelter or rescue organization (they are often overlooked), create a connection -- foster an animal in need, organize a fundraiser, generate letter campaigns to legislators/media/business, make miracles happen and reap the rewards.

VICTORY FARM IS...

Welcome! Founded for the Welfare of Animals -- we are a cruelty-free working farm (crop only) located in New York State (home base) with volunteers throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. The companion and livestock animals that live here have all been rescued from abuse, neglect or slaughter. Our mission is to educate the public on animal-related topics, provide shelter relief and support, fund low cost spay/neuter programs to individuals with genuine financial need and the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of homeless animals. Through the generous hearts and hands of people like you, we can ensure that animals who come into the care of Victory Farm will never again be harmed.

We are a no-kill organization that does not perform severe temperament testing. We believe in the power of healing and proper humane training. Space is limited and foster care is provided to the most critical animals. All animals adopted through Animal Abundance will be vaccinated, rabies, wormed, HW tested (Dog), FELV/FIV tested(Cat), microchipped and spayed/neutered. Please note, we will only adopt out to owners that have a proven history of CONSISTENT Veterinary care for present/past companions.

Since we are fully funded through Citizen/Corporate donations we require the following adoption fees: K-9: $250 Feline/Small animals: $100, Livestock: $25-$350. If you cannot afford to pay this "small fee", please do not email/apply to us about our rescues ! This fee includes all vetting/grooming (listed above), which would cost anyone else twice this amount. The average intake cost (vetting & 1 month of care) for 1 dog is $300-400 and $150-250 for 1 cat. We often incur more medical bills, than a return on our adoption fees...our main goal is to find our wonderful animals the best possible home and provide you with a healthy animal.

BECOME A FRIEND OF THE FARM

DEAR ANIMAL FRIEND, GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE. Angels wanted, adopt an animal in spirit! Some animals come to the farm with a variety of emotional and/or behavioral "issues". For these special animals, their stay with us may last one to six months or they remain with Victory Farm until they pass. Along the way, we have committed ourselves to bonding, socializing and healing with them in order to rebuild their trust in humans. Some have said why not euthanize those that are "unadoptable", however we just cannot do that. Our feeling is that all animals deserves a chance at a "normal" life and we are prepared to do that, but we need help from our supporters to help offset the maintenance and unexpected health issues that arise. Sponsorships make a great gift or milestone like a wedding, birthday, anniversary or your own meaningful occasion. Additionally, you can change the life of a homeless animal by remembering Victory Farm in your will or estate plan...Interested in learning more? Contact us for details. Also, consider adding this simple sentence: I give the sum of $___________ to Victory Farm Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that currently operates at 822 U.S. Highway 20, West Winfield, NY 13491, Tax ID:38-3648937. If you already have your will made out, your lawyer can easily add this request to it with a codicil. Please include Victory Farm Foundation, Inc. in your will - such as naming VFF as a residuary legatee or as a beneficiary in any trust created by your will. Your lawyer can assist you with these alternative methods of expressing your generosity. Whatever method you choose, be assured that the abandoned, unwanted, and abused animals of VFF that we save, care for, and find homes for, deeply appreciate your thoughtfulness. If you have a pet, don't forget when preparing your will to make the necessary arrangements for its future care in the event of your death. If interested in donating, click here:

COMPASSION CORNER

Does the food you eat or fur you wear have a face? Have you ever kissed a cow or given a duck a hug? Did you know in some Asian countries dog and cat meat is considered a "main" course? What do our companion animals, barnyard buddies and wildlife have in common...that's easy, a soul, feelings and the desire to bond. They are sentient beings who experience fear, pain and suffering in the wrong environment. If you are interested in leading a more compassionate and healthy lifestyle, please visit: www.farmsanctuary.org -- and for those die hard meat eaters, we encourage you to watch Peaceable Kingdom, a documentary based on the slaughterhouse and factory farm industries -- the movie may change the way you look at the "food" (or rather flesh) that you eat. FYI, fish are not plants.

PROTECTING OUR PETS

We are for stray and shelter animals. Animal Abundance will be focusing our efforts on raising awareness about the cruel practice of "Pound Seizures". The practice of selling or releasing shelter or pound animals to research or testing facilities is referred to as a "Pound Seizure". Imagine your companion animal gets loose from your petsitter while you are on vacation, your animal is picked up, taken to the local shelter, but because it was not claimed within the "holding period" a Class B dealer buys from your local shelter, often for $10, your companion who will be resold for animal experimentation. The cruel, painful industry of animal experimentation often subjects it's victims to physical and mental anguish as they are intentionally burned, acid dripped in their eyes, bones are broken, physical and mental deprivation, forced to become addicted to drugs or alcohol...the list is endless. As hard as it is to hear this, it is nothing compared to the feelings a lab animal endures for years. Additionally, there are people referred to as "Bunchers" that target neighborhoods looking to steal animals for resale to the animal research industry. Please keep your pets safely indoors and be the eyes and ears for other animals in your neighborhood. OPERATION: SPAY NATION

OSN was created to end the senseless euthanasia of 12 million animals annually, yes annually. We want to create awareness and one day bring an end to animal homelessness. It cost pennies a day to sponsor a spay/neuter for a needy animal. For information on spaying and neutering or to donate, please contact us for a listing of available programs in your area: email

IMPORTANT WAYS YOU CAN HELP ANIMALS

SPAY/NEUTER: Please help control the every growing pet overpopulation problem. Remember to have your animal Spayed (female) or Neutered (male). Below are a list of low-cost spay/neuter programs (local and national): 1. The Spayed Club: 610-275-7486 2. Friends of Animals: 1-800-321-7387 3. SNAP: 410-885-5783 or 302-838-6996 4. SPAY USA: 1-800-248-SPAY Shop Cruelty-free! Only buy products that are not tested on animals. Please contact PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) 757-622-7382 or email: info@PETA.org for a free pocket guide. Be Brave! If you see someone harming an animal or you see a stray or injured animal in need, get involved. Call you local animal control officer or police department and file a complaint. Helping Stray/Feral Cats: Please consider doing the following to make the life of a Stray/Feral cat's life more meaningful: 1. Have the cat spayed/neutered (see our low cost spay section above) to reduce reproduction. Also, have the cat vaccinated to cut down on contagious diseases. 2. Build a shelter using a Large Rubbermaid container. Simply turn the container over (top on), cut a hole in the middle of the container (big enough for a cat to fit through, but to keep the rain/snow out), nail to a pallet (if available), place in a well hidden area. 3. Provide food and water. We recommend a self feeder/waterer.

MANY HAND'S MAKE LIGHT WORK...

We always need volunteers for a wide variety of tasks. We especially need volulnteer's to do home checks within PA, NJ, DE and NY, transport help and fundraising. Contact us for a Volunteer Application: email

ADOPTING A FRIEND

TEN COMMANDMENTS OF ANIMAL GUARDIANSHIP 1. When you adopt me, remember that my life is likely to last 15 to 20 years. Please don't forsake me, any separation from you is painful. 2. Please give me time to understand what it is you want from me. Change can be more difficult for me than for you. 3. Please don't be angry with me for a long time, and don't lock me up alone as punishment. You have your human family, your friends, your entertainment and I ONLY HAVE YOU!!! 4. Please trust me and help me to trust you . . . it is crucial for mine as well as your well being. 5. Talk to me . . . even if you think I don't understand your words I understand your voice and love when you speak to me and stroke me. 6. Before you hit me remember that I have teeth and claws and could easily hurt you but I choose not to bite and scratch you because I love you. 7. Be aware, that however you treat me, I WILL NEVER FORGET!!! 8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative or bad, ask yourself if maybe something is wrong and there is another reason for my behavior. Perhaps I am sick, hot, old or just plain tired, frustrated and weak. PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE ME AND PUT YOURSELF IN MY PLACE. 9. Please take care of me when I get old and don't abandon me, for you too will grow old. Please notice when I am ill because I need you to take me to the vet for help when I am ill just as you need to see a doctor. 10. Go with me on the most difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch" or "Do it when I leave" because I need you with me even at the end of my journeys. Please always do what is best for me even if it is unbearable for you to do so because I love you and trust that you will. If you are interested in adopting an animal, please email/call to have an adoption application sent to you. Once pre-approved, a home visit will need to be performed...this is not meant to invade anyones privacy, but to ensure your home is safe and well prepared for your lifelong companion. Finally, arrangements will be made so you can meet the animal(s) of your dreams.
