We have a huge selection of adoptable cats, some as young as 5 or 6 months old. Come by during our public hours, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week or call 434-263-SPCA to make arrangements if you're interested in one of our cats.
We are the Humane Society/SPCA (HS/SPCA) of beautiful, rural Nelson County, Virginia. We are a 501 C non-profit organization incorporated in 1981 and dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of humane and kind treatment of animals. We support spaying, neutering and adoption of animals to control overpopulation. We work with area veterinarians to spay/neuter all animals that we rescue, and to provide financial assistance to residents for spaying/neutering of pets.
The Almost Home Pet Adoption Center, our no-kill shelter, opened April 25, 2004. The Adoption Center, staffed by volunteers and funded completely through donations, houses up to 25 dogs and 25 cats. The dogs live in dorm rooms, one or two to a room, with wall murals painted by area artists and hemi-sync music from a sound system donated by the Monroe Institute. Cats and kittens are housed in colorful cat condos with handcrafted furniture for climbing and perching. Visitors are encouraged to spend time in the rooms getting acquainted with the dogs and cats prior to adoption.
