Who We Are:

The Allegan County Animal Shelter is proud to have opened our brand new shelter located directly across the parking lot from the old animal shelter! We are a great place to find a family pet or companion. Many people are surprised at the wonderful dogs and cats that become available here at the shelter. Some of the pets that find their way here are purebred and others are a unique one of a kind mix. Although our Petfinder list is updated weekly, the best way to find a new or lost friend is to come to the shelter. When you see a pet listed on Petfinder which you might be interested in adopting, please act on it as soon as you see it! This will give you the best chance to adopt the pet and will give the pet the best chance of attaining a home. We encourage that you take the time to review the responsibility of taking on a new furry friend and familiarize yourself with the type of animal you are choosing. Animals find their way here as strays as well as being owner surrenders. If you suspect your animal may be at the shelter and do not see him/her on our petfinder list, you should come down and check the shelter itself, call us at 269-673-0519, or email us at alleganpaws@gmail.com. The shelter hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Please spay and neuter all pets you own. This will help cut down on the endless number of homeless animals that come into shelters everyday!!

The Adoption Process:

Contact the shelter about an animal you are interested in either by calling 269-673-0519 or by emailing us at alleganpaws@gmail.com. If you would like to adopt the animal we will give you three days to take our spay/neuter contract (http://www.allegancounty.org/docs/SD/AS_form_NeuteringContract.pdf) to your veterinarian to pre-pay for the alteration and to get your veterinarian's signature. Bring this contract to the shelter when you come to pick up your new friend! If you are having a hard time contacting the shelter it is best to leave a message/email with you name, number, and the pet's ID number. Your call/email will be returned as soon as possible, thank you very much for your patience!

Adoption fees: $25.00 for dogs/puppies and $15.00 for cats/kittens.
