Shadow passed away 12/20/07. At 13, he was abandoned here a month earlier. His owner didn't provide for him in his final days but we loved him in the little time we had together.	Max passed away on 1/12/09 just a few months after his loving owner passed away. Max is terribly missed by his foster dad.	Sandy was as sweet as can be little guy. Adopted last year, his owners called 0n 3/14/09 to say he had gotten out of the house and was later struck and killed by a car. We miss you baby...

Honey went over the Rainbow Bridge on 7/26/08. She had a mass, was quite underweight and was very weak but we tried as hard as we could for her because she wouldn't give up without a fight.	Ginger was a sweet little older dog who's owner was also elderly and couldn't care for her any longer. She was adopted and passed away awhile later.	Josephina had severe problems with her trachea. She passed away peacefully in the arms of her foster mother on 7/29/09. The ACQ staff and her foster mother misses her dearly. Rest in peace, little Josie..

On 11/15/09 our adorable Gato passed away after recently being adopted so he had a home to care for him in his final days. He would do well at times, but other times not so good, so it finally may have been too much for our pretty boy.	Rusty died 7/29/09 after he had stopped eating and drinking. He just seemed depressed and wouldn't even look at us anymore.	Mindy was an elderly rescue in poor condition from the city shelter where her owners had dumped her when she needed them most. It took awhile, but Mindy went to a fantastic home in PA. where she happily lived out her final months.

Memory and Fudge came in when their owner was evicted. Both were front-declawed. Memory, a grey/white beauty, got sick and passed away in 5/2010. Fudge, Tortie, is now alone and seeks another home.	Fanta died 6/16/10 despite our efforts. He was a big boy with a big personality. We all miss him. Thankfully, he was in a foster home so had someone there when he needed care. Please considering fostering.	Little Bebe was living the sweet life up in Connecticut but suffered a brain tumor and passed away in early 2/10. Gone, but will never ever be forgotten.

Though Samantha could not see very well just recently our sweet girl found a home who spent the time and money to improve her sight. Though she had not been in her new home long, she was well loved and very Happy and doing well. Sadly, Sweet Samantha passed away suddenly of a heart attack on 1/25/10. We all are devasted.

We Remember Those Who Have Left Us and Never Will Be Forgotten

Who We Are

The Animal Center of Queens (ACQ) is a private, not-for-profit no-kill facility that receives no corporate or government funding, and exists solely on the low cost community services we provide and the donations that come from animal lovers like you.

The ACQ is located just off Queens Blvd. at Eliot Ave. in Rego Park, Queens and is a member of the New York City Mayor's Alliance for Animals.
The majority of animals at the ACQ are rescues from the city's overcrowded kill shelter and are given a second chance for a forever home. Homeless and displaced companion animals are provided with shelter, food, human companionship, medical care, grooming and behavior training until a suitable home can be found.

We provide dogs with meals, daily walks, play time and grooming. We feed, clean litter boxes and socialize the kitties. All animals receive medical attention. We alter (spay/neuter), vaccinate, etc. all our animals as part of the adoption process.

In addition to helping homeless pets, a primary mission of the ACQ is to educate the public about responsible companion animal ownership, the importance of early training, the necessity to spay and neuter to prevent pet overpopulation which leads to abandonment, cruelty, and euthanasia, and that pet ownership is a lifetime commitment. We also provide low cost companion animal behavior training, assist with low cost spay-neuter services, pet boarding, as well as doggie day-care and puppy head-start.

We have and always welcome volunteers who come and provide TLC and human companionship to our animals while they wait to be adopted. Mature and responsible individuals who would like to volunteer with the dogs, cats or both are encouraged to visit. While morning volunteers are most needed, any day or time you can come is very much appreciated.

The ACQ is very thankful to all of our volunteers and your donations.

We are looking for responsible animal lovers to Foster our dogs and cats.
By fostering, you provide the companionship and social experiences they'll need in order to better get adopted and we learn valuable insight to make the right adoption match for them. Please consider fostering, even if its for a short time.

WEEKLY EVENTS
● Every Sunday we hold an Open House Adoption Day at the ACQ. You may visit the Dogs and Cats between Noon and 5pm. No appt. needed.
If there is an offsite adoption event on a particular Sunday (see below) some of the dogs and cats will be at the event and not at the shelter. If coming to see a specific dog/cat we suggest you call ahead first (718-424-3340)

● "FELINE FRIDAY" CAT ADOPTIONS!!
Adult Cats over the age of 1 have a reduced adoption fee of $75 if adopted on Friday. All other days cats and kittens are $100 for our 'Hot To Adopt' Cat Summer Special. Spaying/Neutering, shots all included!! (Restrictions apply)

MONTHLY EVENTS
● Hot to Adopt Summer Cat Adoptions - July & August
We have reduced adoption fees for cat adoptions for the summer months during our Hot To Adopt event. We have many more cats and kittens then listed on our website. Come on over and fall in love...
Adult Cat and Kitten adoption fees will be $100. On Friday's to encourage adoptions of our wonderful cats all adults over 1 year of age are only $75.

● Hot to Adopt Summer Pitbull Adoptions - July & August
We have reduced adoption fees for Pitbull adoptions for the summer months during our Hot To Adopt event. All Pitbulls are $175 and we have some of the most friendliest boys and girls around. Plus, to encourage adoptions all dogs and their owners will be entitled to 2 Free training lessons at the center and, discounted lessons in the future, if you desire, by our trainer. Come on over and meet them!

NEWS/VOLUNTEERS
● Want to Volunteer? Reliable volunteers are always needed to walk dogs, clean kennels and care for the cats. Morning help is especially needed!!
Many people call and email about volunteering but very few actually ever show up. From now on, those interested in being a volunteer must stop by in person and complete a volunteer form. Let us know any specific days/times you can help or just come when you are available.
We do not call volunteers -we expect volunteers to come and help out when they can. It is a rewarding experience, do you have the initiative?
Must be 18 or older. 16/17 year-olds must have signed permission from parents.

● Interested in being a Foster parent? A spare room or basement may be all you need to enable a dog or cat some time out of their cage.

● We Are Looking For a New Location
Do you know of another location in the Queens area that may be well-suited for The Animal Center? You can help by first contacting the leasing company/landlord to find out the square footage and rent and if they would be ok with animals. The building should be one-level (no people living on top) and ideally detached/semi-detached. A basement and yard would be a bonus!

● The ASPCA has recently launched the Virtual Pet Behaviorist.
