Adoptions

Serious inquiries ONLY please. Our Adoption centre is in Richmond Hill.. We are only taking local (York, Durham Region) adoption applications at this time. If you are interested in adopting one of our cats, please fill out an Adoption Application Form and either fax it (905-852-1512) or email it to i.trettin@andrewswireless.net and your inquiry will be answered promptly.

We ask that when you pick up a cat you are adopting that you bring your own secure pet carrier. If you do not already have one, this is a good investment because you will need it when you take the cat to regular vet checkups.

FOFA/ACO understands that certain issues involving an adopted cat can arise, such as the cat not getting along with other pets, behavioural problems, allergies, etc. This is why we offer to take the cat back if necessary. However, the adoption fee is considered a donation. We will do our best to care for them again and find a more suitable home for them. We do ask that before you consider adopting a cat, you take into consideration all possible issues you might have with owning a cat beforehand. This will prevent stressing the cats by having to be passed around from home to home. Sonia or one of her volunteers can answer any questions you may have so feel free to address any concerns with them.

About Us

Friends of Forsaken Animals, formerly Animal Crusaders of Ontario, was formed in 1997 by Sonia Trettin. We are a no-kill, non-profit, all volunteer cat rescue. Our cats come to us as strays, from high-volume pounds or as owner surrenders. Volunteers also feed, spay/neuter and vaccinate cats from feral colonies.

Hill’s® Science Diet® “Second Chance for Love” shelter program has partnered with us and is donating pet food for all cats, and kittens being cared for here.

Help Needed

Saving cats from hunger, abuse or certain death is very rewarding. Having the chance to work with other dedicated animal lovers is an opportunity hard to resist. Please think about how you can be involved with this compassionate organization. We are in need of reliable help in the following areas:

  • temporary (1 month) local foster homes to care for our kitties when we are not in PetSmart.
  • Spending time in our adoption centre (Richmond Hill) and shelter (Sunderland) to play with the cats and clean cages.
  • taking home bedding to wash on a weekly basis
  • help to feed and shelter local feral cats, part of our trap and release program.
  • provide transportation to/from vets, foster homes and pet stores.
  • provide storage space for pet supplies.
  • creating ideas and making craft items for fund raising such as toys or knitted blankets.
  • veterinary technicians are needed on call to help medicate cats in our foster homes. **Experience required**

Our Wish List

We are a non profit organization so any additional donations are greatly appreciated to help cover our out of pocket expenses to keep all of our cats happy, healthy and ready to adopt. If you can donate any of these items listed below, it would be very much appreciated.

  • Blankets, large towels, cat beds and new washable toys and scratching posts.
  • Cleaning supplies such as paper towels, kitchen garbage bags and cleaning solutions
  • Wet food in Hill’s® Science Diet® brand kitten, adult or senior lifestages.
  • clumping litter, pellet pine litter, litter boxes and scoops.
  • Stainless steel, ceramic, plastic or styrofoam bowls.
  • Grooming supplies such as brushes, combs and nail clippers.
  • Monetary donations for the payment of vet bills for medications, treatments, vaccinations and spay/neuters.
  • Gift certificates from pet supply stores or Canadian Tire money
