We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
FEATURED PETS
This is only one of Sasha's puppies. There are a total of six sweet, friendly, affectionate little girls who love to play and give lots of kisses. Stop by any day between 12-3pm to meet all of these adorable girls and momma Sasha too!
Smokey is a very outgoing, energetic fellow who was found when he was only 4 weeks old. He and his brother Bandit were in a foster home for a few weeks where they loved being with other cats. Smokey has adjusted well to life in the kitten room, but will be happier when he gets a forever home of his own. His brother Bandit was just adopted and now Smokey is ready to find his family.
"Dogs are such agreeable friends, they ask no questions, they pass no criticism"
FOSTER PETS
These animals are currently in foster homes, NOT at our adoption facility. They are looking for loving, forever homes as they cannot stay with their foster family. Please help them find a second chance at happiness.
CUTIE! Cutie was turned into a high kill shelter. We have no idea why because she is the sweetest little girl. At first we thought her front leg was injured and did not heal well, but we are happy to find out it is due to the fact she is just growing too fast and she will be 100% once she is full grown. We were told she was 2-3years old but now realize she is only about 9 months old! Please call to schedule a time to meet our ‘Cutie’!
"Live in peace with the animals. Animals bring love to our hearts, and warmth to our souls."
WHO WE ARE
Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR) founded in 1996, is a 501(C)(3) IRS tax-exempt, qualified non-profit charitable organization that rescues and shelters abandoned, abused, and neglected pets, rehabilitates them and finds them new homes. APR is one of the largest no kill animal shelters in South Florida, where volunteers perform the duties of running the shelter operations on a day to day basis. APR is devoted to the welfare of all animals. Most of the over 300 animals are Cats, Dogs, Bunnies, Birds, Ferrets, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Mice, Rats, Iguanas, and other animals in need of help. While pet overpopulation is declining throughout the country, the number of animals brought to South Florida shelters is increasing.
"None left to rescue, none left to buy, none left to suffer, none left to die. None to be beaten, none to be kicked...all must be loved and all must be fixed".~unknown
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Trap/Neuter/Return APR reduces the feral cat population through a trap/neuter/return program, preventing the birth of thousands of unwanted cats each year. After endless calls about cat colonies breeding with no limits and people unable to spay/neuter their pets for lack of funds, it was time for APR to take action. If you would like to make a donation to help APR with the cost of spaying/neutering, click on the donation button below. At this time our small group of volunteers is unable to come out and trap your cats. Please refer to the low cost spay/neuter options below to get your cats fixed. Many will loan you a trap for a small deposit. The best thing you can do is to have the cats sterilized to stop the reproduction and then care for the colony as there is no place else for them to go. There is an estimated 350,000+ feral cats living in Broward County. Please help us continue to trap/neuter/release these poor unwanted felines.
South Florida currently has a few low cost spay/neuter facilites that WILL neuter ferals!
Stray Aid & Rescue has a new mobile unit operating low cost spay/neuters for dogs and cats. Please visit them at http://strayaid.org for days/hours of operation and costs. You can schedule your appointment online! Vaccines are available at an additional cost. Contact them by email: mail@strayaid.org or call 954-816-0799.
The MASH unit (through the Humane Society) is low cost and you DO NOT need to be low income to take advantage of their services either. MASH will spay/neuter cats and kittens only (starting at $25), notch the ferals ear, give a penicillin shot, rabies vaccine, rabies tag ($12). They operate Tuesday - Saturday. To schedule an appointment please call the Humane Society MASH Unit at 954-266-6826. http://www.browardhumane.com/service/spayneuter.htm
Cats Exclusive - Millions of cats & kittens are euthanized each year and our goal is to end the use of euthanization for adoptable or treatable cats in Broward County. Our no-kill cat adoption center has found homes for over 4,000 cats and kittems since 1998. In addition, we have built and opened a spay and neuter clinic in September 2007. The clinic provides many services such as spay/neuter, microchipping, and vaccines for all cat owners. For more information please contac them at 954-975-8349 or snap@catsexclusive.org.
Pet-A-Kid APR educates the public on the problem of pet over-population through the PET-A-KID program-kids and pets working together to make a difference. The children come to our no kill shelter because they have little to no parental guidance due to long working days and broken families. The program will keep the children off of the streets, teach them responsibility, love, respect for life, and team work. The kids turn the animals into wonderful pets-and the animals turn the kids into wonderful people! If you would like to make a donation to support APR's PET-A-KID program, click on the donation button below.
"Thorns may hurt you, men desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you're never friendless ever, if you have your dogs."
Excel With Animals APR offers pre-vocational, social and recreational opportunities for persons with mental illness. People with disabilities and economic disadvantages become self-sufficient and become contributing members of the community through skills training and career building opportunities at our no kill shelter. If you would like to make a donation to support APR's excel with animals program, click on the donation button below.
"We will protect only what we love.We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught."
OUR MISSION
APR's primary goal is to assemble a no-kill community. This is quite a daunting task; nonetheless, APR is making a valuable contribution to the animal community and will continue to do so as long as support is provided from generous donors. APR is dedicated to matching the right pet with the right home for the enduring happiness of both pet and owner. Our pets are with us as long as they need to be & to be healthy and well adjusted. Often they need medical care, love and time to feel secure before they can be placed up for adoption. Our lives are dedicated to finding forever homes for each of our pets. It is our passion, it is our responsibility. If you would like to make a donation to support APR, click on the donation button below?

ADOPTING A FRIEND
Our shelter is open Monday through Sunday from 12 noon - 3pm for adoptions and visitors. We do close promptly at 3pm so our volunteers can aid in the care of our many rescue pets. All dogs are spayed/neutered, checked for heartworm, vaccinated, and microchipped. The canine adoption fee begins at $150. All cats are spayed/neutered, checked for feline aids & leukemia, vaccinated and microchipped. The feline adoption fee is $75. Broward county requires all pets who will be residing in the county to carry a rabies tag, the rabies tag is an additional $11.
"...Saving just one pet won't change the world...but, surely, the world will change for that one pet..."
Our Application Process 1- We require anybody interested in adopting to come to our adoption facility to meet our pets. If you find a pet that you wish to adopt, you will then be given the adoption application. 2- We require this application to be filled out to start the adoption procedure. 3- Once we review your application, we may call you if we feel you are compatible with the pet you are interested in, or to obtain further information. Please know that we are a small organization and it may take some time for us to review your application. 4- Once your application has been approved for adoption, you will pay the appropriate adoption fee and take your new companion home! We like to maintain contact, follow up, hear funny stories. These pets are all individuals, imprinted on our hearts, we love to hear how you all are doing, and we especially LOVE pictures!!!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Volunteers APR is always looking for volunteers to help socialize/feed and walk dogs, clean kennels and cat rooms, and assist with adoption events both at our facility and at outside locations. Volunteers are needed from 9am-12noon and from 2-5pm. We ask that you come promptly at 9am or 2pm to help for the specified time. We may have to turn volunteers away if you arrive late and we have enough help for that shift. You do not need to call as we need help everyday, 7 days a week. We are an approved organization for service hours as well. Please note - You must be 13yrs old to volunteer with us unless you are volunteering with a parent and you must be at least 21 yrs old to walk dogs. Currently dogs are walked on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30am - 2:30pm. If you are interested in dog walking please call (do not email) a few days a head of time so we can make certain someone will be there to introduce you to the dogs and to show you the process the first time.
**I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter....the castoffs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God" I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then spoke softly, "I have done something" was the reply, "I created you" ~Author unknown**
Donations - We always gratefully accept donations. Please drop off canned dog or cat food, bunny or bird food. We are also in need of: Bleach, Laundry Detergent, Cat litter, Towels, Blankets, cleaning supplies, mops, paper towels, garbage bags, pooper scoopers, cotton swabs, toys, crates, and collars. - Donations of construction/electrical/plumbing supplies and expertise would be greatly appreciated. - If you own a printing business, we could use assistance with printing our newsletter. - If you might be interested in donating land and/or a facility, our BIG DREAM is to create an adoption facility and sanctuary where our pets have lots of room to explore, play and rest comfortably while waiting to be adopted. - Our ability to rescue pets in our community relies solely on donations from supporters. We keep our adoption fee as low as possible to facilitate adoptions. Our vet expenses are substantial because of the horrific condition of some of the dogs which come from abused and or neglect situations. None of our volunteers are paid for their time and wonderful care they provide for the pets. If you would like to financially foster a pet, please send a check made out to Abandoned Pet Rescue and mail to: 1137 NE 9th Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. Or click on the donation button below. Just a SMALL donation will help a LARGE amount of unwanted pets. All donations are tax deductible.
