If you would like to save a LIFE, please make a donation through our PayPal button below. Any amount will help us continue our work. The "pull fee" for a dog from the pound is $50. That provides a vaccination and a spay/neuter certificate. We provide additional vaccinations and vetting. The "average" cost per dog for all vetting is $100. Many exceed that amount, depending on their health status and whether we have to board them for a few days until we can find a foster home or arrange transport to an alternate safe location.

Who We Are

AARF is a group of volunteers dedicated to reducing the number of euthanized cats and dogs in the Ashland Kentucky area. Through generous donations, the volunteers are able to pay the county pull fee, provide needed vetting, INCLUDING ALTERATIONS, boarding and transport to approved rescues. The volunteers work closely with the county pound, vets and rescues to see these animals, slated for euthanasia, find a safe place to land before their forever homes are found. Please know we are not the pound. We work closely with the County Pound staff to move animals as quickly as possible. We will work diligently to see our list is updated but the pound cannot HOLD animals. They simply do not have room. The county pull fee must be paid and the animal must be sent directly to boarding or an approved foster home to see that the dog or cat is not destroyed. AARF is in need of foster homes. The more foster homes, the more animals saved. Please contact us if you are interested in providing a temporary home until the *foster is accepted into a **rescue. *A Foster home is a temporary (2-6 weeks) home for the animal to live at until a rescue is found; AARF will pay for vet care. **Once an animal is accepted into a rescue, they are no longer up for adoption through AARF.

Adopting a friend

Please do your part to reduce the number of unwanted animals by spaying and neutering your pets. All pets need a constant supply of fresh drinking water and nutritious meals. Regular exercise in a controlled area is necessary for your pets health and behavior. AARF moves most of the pets it saves to rescues. When a private adoption is requested, an application must be approved ALONG with a home visit. Please remember that dogs are not meant to live on the end of a chain!
