Our featured pets are Miss MItzi and MIss Minnie.
These girls hail from Emporia KS and their dad lost his home and after trying to keep them and sleep in his car, he decided it wasn't fair to them. So he relinquished them to the shelter. They came to WY together but don't need to be adopted together. Both are pleasingly plump, and healthy. They would love a lap of their own for the holidays. So please check them out and give us a call to meet them.
News
The latest project at The Healing Journey Rescue is the building of The Cat House. A 12x16 gambrel roofed barn(painted red with white and black trim of course) is almost completed and is already the home for several rescue cats. It has an 8 x 12 loft area, with a pull down staircase that the kitties are running up and down and enjoying the new Leap and Play Treehouses that were donated by HSUS. We also have a couple of kitty activity centers donated by Petco, and we have one installed that the cats and kittens are enjoying so much! We thank C.A.R.E. of Denver, Co for their donations to our efforts to make a homey building for the kitties who are here awaiting their furever homes. It will have all the comforts of home including A/C and heat, and has a carpeted loft (thanks, Charlene for the extra carpet from your family room project), a sofa, chair and end tables for the kitties to lounge on when they are tired of playing and chasing each other.
We are sorry to report that our Miss Muffin, a 20 year old terrier girl who we rescued from a MO shelter crossed to Rainbow Bridge June 2, 2009. She had some wonderful months with her "mom" Dr. Jennifer, but the cancer finally took its toll, and she was ready to leave us for health and happiness at the Bridge. She left peacefully in Jennifer's loving arms at home, in familiar surroundings and knowing that she was truly loved. She was just about 6 weeks short of her 21st birthday.
Miss Muffin came to us in August 2008 and was adopted by a wonderful Dr. at CSU Vet School in Ft. Collins, CO. She was diagnosed with cancer in December 08, and began chemotherapy at the Cancer center there. She went with her mom crosscountry to NC to celebrate the holidays, and is now back home in Ft. Collins, CO. Miss Muffin's eyesight was failing, but she knew her way around her home and wasmuch loved by her mom and everyone she met.
Who We Are
The Healing Journey Rescue's mission is to save the lives of needy and unwanted furkids, give them whatever care they might need to be whole again, and to help them find loving homes and families. We specialize in cats and small dogs as well as those with special needs. Most of our furkids were on the list to be euthanized when they came to us, and it seems as if they know that they were saved because all are so grateful and loving as if to say, "Thank you for saving me!" Many are very young and all had much life left to live. Some are older but have many years of quality life left for them to enjoy. It is our express purpose to make sure they are adopted by loving, compassionate people who will understand that they have special emotional and sometimes physical needs and are willing to have the patience to help them blossom into the furkids they are meant to be. Shelters tend to classify furkids as seniors if they are 7 years old or older. But with many dogs and cats today, their life expectancy is upwards of 15 years. Because of the increased longevity today, The Healing Journey does not consider our furkids to be seniors until they are at least 12 years old.
Adopting a friend
If you see a furkid on our site that you think might fit into your home, your family and your lifestyle, please contact us for more information and an application. Once you have an application on file, we can begin the process of adoption. We require a fenced yard, a veterinarian reference (which we will check by calling that vet so please be sure to provide his phone number and location) and we or someone we trust will do a home visit. We do not ship our furkids, and we usually meet prospective adopters in Cheyenne, WY. We do encourage a meeting with you and any other furkids that currently share your life to be sure that the furkid will fit into your family and be accepted by your other furkids. Because we rescue mainly cats and small dogs, we mark the NO KIDS section on the Petfinder webpage. But this only means that we do not adopt to homes with small children who do not yet have the capacity to understand the animals feel pain and emotion like people. But the time children reach the age of 8-10, they are quite able to understand the needs and proper treatment and care of animal companions.
We appreciate your patience and just want to be sure the adoption is a perfect fit for everyone!
