Our featured pets are Chester and Boots.
Both are special boys: Chester is a Maine Coon mix who came from Independence, MO and Boots from Leavenworth, KS. Chester can be a bit independent, but he still craves a loving touch from any human that walks by. Boots is a long haired black and white kitty who could use a diet and he came from the Leavenworth shelter .They were so very full, several of the kitties came west to WY. Almost all of them have been adopted, but Boots and the kittens are still here waiting for their very own mom and dad. They would love a lap of their own. So please check them out and give us a call to meet them.

UPDATE on Lil Miss/Macy. We just received word today that this little Maltipoo will be having her cataract surgery on January 19th, and that she will be able to see as soon as the surgery is finished. She will have to be quiet for a couple of weeks and will require lots of care, but she will see again after probably 7 years of blindness, and that is why we do rescue! There can be happy endings when people step up to the plate and become a voice for the voiceless. As soon as she is healed we will make a trip to Denver to see her and her family who have so graciously taken her and her surgery bills into their lives without hesitation. Cataract surgery on furkids is more expensive than that on humans, so it will take several thousand dollars to restore her sight. Her adoption and subsequent eye surgery is an answer to so many people praying for this little soul. We are grateful that she is a candidate to have her eyes fixed, and we pray for a successful surgery on Tuesday. If you are so inclined, please say a prayer for her and her new mom who I'm sure is as nervous as we are!
The latest project at The Healing Journey Rescue is the building of The Cat House. A 12x16 heated, gambrel roofed barn(painted red with white and black trim of course) is completed and is home for several rescue cats and a couple of fosters who are here because their human companions are ill and need someone to care for them until they can go home. It has an 8 x 12 loft area, with a pull down staircase that the kitties are running up and down and enjoying the new Leap and Play Treehouses that were donated by HSUS. We also have a couple of kitty activity centers donated by Petco, and we have one installed that the cats and kittens are enjoying so much! We thank C.A.R.E. of Denver, Co for their donations to our efforts to make a homey building for the kitties who are here awaiting their furever homes. It will eventually have all the comforts of home including A/C , and it has a carpeted loft (thanks, Charlene for the extra carpet from your family room project), chairs and a glider for the kitties to lounge on when they are tired of playing and chasing each other.
Adopting a friend
If you see a furkid on our site that you think might fit into your home, your family and your lifestyle, please contact us for more information and an application. Once you have an application on file, we can begin the process of adoption. We require a fenced yard, a veterinarian reference (which we will check by calling that vet so please be sure to provide his phone number and location) and we or someone we trust will do a home visit. We do not ship our furkids, and we usually meet prospective adopters in Cheyenne, WY. We do encourage a meeting with you and any other furkids that currently share your life to be sure that the furkid will fit into your family and be accepted by your other furkids. Because we rescue mainly cats and small dogs, we mark the NO KIDS section on the Petfinder webpage. But this only means that we do not adopt to homes with small children who do not yet have the capacity to understand the animals feel pain and emotion like people. But the time children reach the age of 8-10, they are quite able to understand the needs and proper treatment and care of animal companions.
We appreciate your patience and just want to be sure the adoption is a perfect fit for everyone!
Thank you to everyone who helped the furkids by adopting them and giving them loving homes and families. We adopted several kitties and doggies in 2009 and we hope we can save and rehome even more in 2010.
