WHO IS HCPAP?
Hampshire County Pet Adoption Program has been rescuing dogs (cats and rabbits sometimes, too) for over 8 years. We are a non-profit organization maintained solely by volunteers. We are not a shelter. All of our animals are fostered in the homes of our volunteers.
OUR PURPOSE
is to first rescue abused, neglected, stray, and unwanted dogs, cats, and sometimes rabbits. Secondly, we provide health care, treatment, socialization, and love to each individual animal. Finally, and most importantly, we find responsible owners to adopt these wonderful animals. Our goal is a great home for each animal and a great animal for each home! We also inform and educate both pet owners and non-pet owners in responsible pet interaction, care, and the importance of spaying or neutering of dogs, cats, and rabbits.
WHERE DO OUR ANIMALS COME FROM?
All of our animals are strays or have been released to us by their owners. We also help out local shelters whenever possible. Unfortunately, background history is usually not available.
DO WE EUTHANIZE?
We are fortunate enough to not have to euthanize our animals. We keep them until they find their perfect home. However, because our animals are in foster homes, this does greatly limit the number of animals we are able to rescue.
WHY DO WE FOSTER?
Fostering gives us the unique ability to match these animals with an appropriate owner. We are able to discover the personality of each individual animal and the type of environment they will flourish in. This allows us to determine how your new pet will behave around other
animals and children. This also gives us an opportunity to introduce training to each dog.
AFTER ADOPTION
Aftercare support is also available to help address anything that may arise after the animal is placed in a new home. We are very happy to work with you about any problems that may arise. Remember, almost all behavior is correctable using patience, love and positive reinforcement. We always like hearing from you even if there are not problems. We get very close to all the animals we foster so it is always good to hear how they are doing.
ADOPTION DAYS
Because we do not have a shelter our animals get their chance to be adopted on Saturdays at Petsmart in Winchester, VA. Not all of them can come to Petsmart at once so it is very important that you contact us if there were any that you were mainly interested in.
IMPORTANT!!
Lost pets not wearing some form of ID do not usually get returned to their homes. PLEASE have some sort of identification on your dog/cat at all times.
INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?
Foster homes are always needed for our rescued animals. If you would like to foster one of our animals then please contact us for more information.
INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Volunteers are always welcome to help at Petsmart on Saturdays. Please call us if you are interested in helping us out! It will be greatly appreciated.
