Who We Are

The New River Humane Society, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable, humane organization committed to control the dog/cat population through spaying and neutering; to ensure all animals are treated with dignity and respect and free from owner abuse; and to provide them with a warm, caring home for resident's locally and out-of-state. The goals of the New River Humane Society, Inc. are that each dog and cat receives the undivided attention of every shelter staff, volunteer, and veterinarians, from grooming and health/fitness to one-on-one contact by way of walking, talking, and petting; and to educate the public on the effects of animal abuse and neglect. The New River Humane Society, Inc. was founded in July of 1999 and has maintained the daily operation of the local animal shelter known as the Fayette County Animal Control Center, located in Beckwith, West Virginia (just 7 miles outside of Fayetteville). The animal shelter is funded by the county government but monetary donations are always needed, appreciated and tax deductible. Other donations and contributions are needed as well such as, cleaning supplies, dog, cat, puppy and kitten food (canned and dry), kitty litter, towels, rags, sheets, blankets, stainless steel bowls, leashes, collars, treats, toys, etc. Should you wish to become a volunteer, make a donation or adopt a pet, please call the phone number listed below. All pets are in need of a forever home.

Public Hours are Tuesday thru Saturday from 11:00am - 5:00pm. Closed on Sunday and Monday.

Adopting A Pet

The Adoption Contract states that any pet adopted from the Fayette County Animal Control Center must be provided with proper food, water, adequate shelter, veterinary examinations and vaccinations, and treated kindly at all times. The pet is not allowed to breed and will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter. The pet is to be licensed in compliance with the laws and ordinaces enforced within the county or municipality in which the adopter resides. The pet is to be returned to the FCACC if the adopter can no longer keep or care for the pet. Also, there are NO-REFUNDS on the deposit, adoption or sterilization of any pet. Failure to comply with all the Adoption Contract stipulations, shall constitute in a "breach of contract" and legal action shall be taken towards the adopter.

Our Adoption Fees

Dogs / Pups- $60.00 Cats / Kittens- $50.00 The adoption fee for un-altered pets includes the cost of spay/neuter. We accept cash, checks and money orders only.

From the Fayetteville Intersection on US Rt. 19 turn onto Rt. 16 North and travel 4.3 miles, then turn left onto Fayette County Park Road. Travel 1.1 mile and veer to the left onto a one lane paved road. Travel 1/2 mile and turn left (go across bridge) and straight up the hill to the Office for instructions on adoptions, deposits, reclaims, admittance, etc. From the Gauley Bridge/Ansted areas (Rt. 60 East/West) at the Chimney Corner Intersection, turn onto Rt. 16 South and travel 4 miles and turn right onto Fayette County Park Road. Travel 1.1 mile and veer to the left onto a one lane paved road. Travel 1/2 mile and turn left (go across bridge) and straight up the hill to the Office for instructions on adoptions, deposits, reclaims, admittance, etc.
