Rousseaus Rescue Ranch
Our Featured Pet...
What appears to be a mastiff-chocolate lab mix has just been turned over by a couple who found him as a stray. He looks to have had some very rough times. Our vet guesses he is between 2-4 years. He is a sweet-natured chocolate brindle and appears to be around 100 lbs. He has been around cats and other dogs with no problems.

News
HELP!! Or this rescue may need to shut down temporarily. Because of family illness, it has become imperative that my rescue relocates. In order to keep operating, I NEED TO RENT a 3-4 bedroom home, preferably in a rural or somewhat quiet area, preferably between Charleston and Huntington. I have over 10 years residential construction experience, so a fixer-upper is great. It is also ok if a 4-wheel-drive vehicle is needed to reach the home. It must be ok for me to keep pets inside but I can perform any repairs, should that be necessary. I will sign a contract saying that I will repair/replace anything that my fosters might damage. On the whole, mastiffs do NOT tend to be terribly destructive dogs. It has been a very busy summer. PLEASE HELP US FIND A NEW HOME!!!!
As usual, I am behind on returning e-mails and I hope that everyone will be understanding. I do intend to get back to everyone because even if the dog you originally inquired about it gone I may still be able to find a dog that will work for your family. I am trying to recruit people to help with the e-mails and other administrative duties. After that I hope to complete an on-line application page. So far this summer, 6 mastiffs have found homes through Rousseaus' Rescue Ranch. Those include: little, crazy Trunks, who is not so crazy in his new home; poor abandonded Col Beauregard, who found someone to help him work through his abandonment issues; Max, the neglected, now full-time spoiled; sweet Naomi Wiggle-butt, one of the greatest successes, charming her new people into submission; young Titan, who was lucky enough to have a home waiting when he arrived here; and finally, the Great ZAZU, who I regretfully took to his new home this past weekend. I think this may be a record for one season and I hope to break it next time.
Who We Are
Rousseau's Rescue Ranch was founded in memory of Rousseau, worlds' greatest Dogue de Bordeaux. It is a one person operation that takes in neglected, abused or abandoned mastiffs on a space available basis and places them in homes where they can get the level of care they deserve. While at "the ranch" they are taught the skills and manners necessary to make them wonderful family members. We are always short on funds; most everything comes out of my pocket. We can always use donations of food, blankets, toys, meds...you name it! It is tough to care for so many mastiffs. Also, because of the high volume of dogs in my care right now, I am a little slow getting to all the e-mails. If you have sent one recently, please be patient. I will reply to everyone but it is taking longer than usual.
Adopting a friend
In order to adopt or foster one of our rescues we require that you fill out a family profile/adoption form (please e-mail me to request one) and have a home visit, conducted by myself or a trusted volunteer. This is so that each rescue is matched with the most suitable family, thereby helping ensure that it will not ever have to return to rescue. Each mastiff has an adoption fee, usually ranging from $200 for elderly or infirm mastiff's to $350. Also, before any dog is released, we require that the adoptive family sign a contract agreeing to return the dog to RRR should they ever be unable to keep it for any reason. Some of our mastiffs are fostered through other mastiff club rescues and with these dogs you must submit the required applications to those clubs. Each dogs' bio will tell you which rescue group is in charge of the dog, which forms to submit and how to find them. If you have any questions or want more information on any of the dogs or want to set up an appointment to meet one, please e-mail us.
