We are in dire need of local indoor foster homes and rescues (local or long distance) for cats & kittens. Please email us if you can help in any way! Without a cat building, we don't have much capacity here!

UPDATE 2/7/10: We have been busy with cleanup, adoption/rescue of shelter animals, setting up alternative cat sheltering, planning a memorial service, grant writing, setting up fundraisers, and more. We are pleased that two architectural firms have donated their assistance in planning a new shelter building. A public relations agency is also generously donating their time to help us advertise fundraisers, amongst other services. On January 28, we started to clear debris from the destroyed building. On February 4, the last dogs that were here during the fire went to rescue. A few of the cats that were in foster care during the fire are still here though. Thanks to the adopters and the rescuers that have stepped up to take them in and continue to help us. Remember, there are still more dogs and cats coming in. We can't say enough to thank everyone for their generosity and support from individuals, groups, and businesses in the local community and around the country. You are truly amazing. Let's go win that Shelter Challenge!

FIRE STRIKES SHELTER! On January 13, 2010, the red building that housed all of the cats and kittens burned in a fire in the pre-dawn hours. We lost all of the animals in that building (both cats and dogs). We had several cats in foster care and had moved dogs & puppies from that building out to rescues the weekend before the fire. If not for that, more lives would have been lost. There are still many other dogs and cats needing homes that were in the new kennel building, foster care, or outside kennels. The supply rooms were in the building that burned down. Everything was destroyed in the fire, but much of it has been replaced by donors. Here's a list of what we still need as far as supplies go. The most urgent need right now is raising money for rebuilding. We are starting to plan the rebuilding process and need funding. (Please note that we did not lose the entire shelter. We still have the newer shelter building with indoor/outdoor dog kennels, as well as some outdoor kennels. And, we have an area set up for intake of cats).

In Memory: These dogs & cats were lost in the fire. Rest in peace...

Rebuilding after the fire:

OUR FEATURED DOG IS TILLY ~ Rescue only/pregnant!

1/25/10: Tilly has been wandering the town of Harrisville for some time. One of the shelter staff was able to befriend her and got her in to safety. It's a good thing too because Tilly appears to be pregnant. She's a sweet and gentle girl who is a little shy at first until she gets to know you. She has an unusual light brindle coat of tan and black.

You can order supplies for donations from 1-800-PetMeds:

PLEASE DONATE DOG BEDS:

Donate a Bed We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. The dogs love these beds and they don't have to lay on the hard cement. Even dogs that have never seen a bed in their lives take to these beds quickly. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
