Braxton County Animal Shelter is a County Run Shelter and NOT A NO KILL Shelter. We need all the help we can get to save as many as we can!!! Most only have a short time with us. We are a small shelter only having 22 runs. The problem with this is we average 80 dogs a month. We do have special cases that we will keep a dog longer but the average time spent in the shelter is only 15 days! So please if your thinking about adopting a pet please see your shelter or our shelter first!!! You could be saving a life.....

Adopting a pet is a base price of $70 which includes rabies and spay/neuter. All of our animals are required to be spayed/neutered. If you live in Braxton County there is an additional fee for County license,which is $6 if you live in the Burnsville,Sutton, or Gassaway Corporations.$3 for all other districts.
Please note we do not pre-adopt or hold dogs (rescues not included) if you are looking at a dog you might want call before coming, you must come in to adopt the dog we do not offer transport for any animal.

The Braxton County Animal Shelter is located just off of Otter Road at 10 Animal Shelter Lane, Sutton, West Virginia.
Directions from I-79 north bound are as follows: Take the Gassaway/Sutton Exit 62 and at the intersection turn left toward Sutton. Travel approximately 1.5 miles and after passing Go-Mart on the right turn left at Y-intersection, then immediately turn left again onto Rt. 4 N. Go approximately 1/2 mile take left onto Otter Road. Travel 1/2 mile up the hill we are on the left just across the Interstate bridge.
Directions from I-79 south bound are as follows.: Take the Flatwoods exit 67 make a left at the bottom of the exit ramp to the traffic light make a right at the light passing the KFC, McDonalds onto Rt. 4 S. stay on this road for approximately 3 1/2 miles You will pass a rock quarry on your left we are the 2nd right from the quarry onto Otter rd Travel 1/2 mile up the hill crossing the interstate bridge we are the first driveway on the left.
Adoption Hours: Monday - Friday 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m and Sat-10:00am - 3:00pm
If you Google directions on a GPS please put in 98 W Main st. Sutton WV 26601 Otter rd is just before you get to the Y on Main st.
