Who We Are

Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) of Pendleton Co., WV was formed in April, 2005 by a group of concerned Pendleton County residents. There has never been an animal shelter in Pendleton prior, not even a dog pound! We have been able to save some pets over this time, but would like to increase our capacity and effectiveness because there are many more pets we are unable to help due to a lack of funding and we are the only option for homeless animals in Pendleton. Though we are are relatively new, we do have our 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status, so all donations are tax deductible and most of the funds go to pay veterinary bills and a small amount is used to pay basic costs like phone, supplies, kennels & crates. As of 11/11/08, PAWS has rescued 238 pets through our Pet Rescue program. Please help us rescue more with your donation!

WE LOVE RESCUES!!

Rescues, our PAWS policy is to vaccinate the pet the day they come into our care and most of our pets are housed in foster homes to protect their health and to provide them with individual attention and guidance to help them on their way to becoming more adoptable pets. Please see our adoptable pet list and THANK YOU!

Lost a pet?

If you have searched our pet page and have still not found your missing pet, you may want to consider calling us at: 358-3644 and also calling the Pendleton County Sheriff's Department at : 358-2214. Posting notices with a picture of the pet in local businesses and visible areas can help to find a lost pet. Please also fill out the lost pet report on Lost and Pound, you can access their website at this web address: http://www.lostandpound.com/ Please always keep some ID on your pets so if they become lost, they can be returned. Ask your vet to microchip your pet. Pets that have been microchipped can always find their way home, even if they lose their collar!

LOVE Pets?

But, due to your schedule/travel plans...can't make a long term commitment? Consider fostering a pet! PAWS provides full veterinary care, crates/carriers, collars, leashes, donated food (when available) and an outdoor kennel if you would like one! All you need to do is provide TLC and care for the pet while he/she is in your care as you would your own pet. We can work around your travel plans! Please open your heart and home to one of these wonderful animals. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed. We help you decide which animal will fit well within your home and family. The foster parents' knowledge of the dog's needs plays a large part in the adoptability of a pet. IF YOU CANNOT FOSTER, we have other volunteer opportunities that are equally challenging and rewarding. We can find something to fit your schedule! Fundraising, Helping at the Flea Market & Basket Bingo, Photography, Transporting, etc. Please email or call!

WISH LIST:

PAWS needs a van to transport pets to the veterinarian, to safety in foster homes and to no kill adoption programs. Remember if you donate a van to PAWS, it will be a tax deductible charitable contribution...PAWS is a tax exempt 501 (c) 3. PAWS also needs land to build an animal shelter...please consider donating a few acres of land to PAWS!
