Who We Are

Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) of Pendleton Co., WV was formed in April, 2005 by a group of concerned Pendleton County residents. There has never been an animal shelter in Pendleton. We have been able to save some pets over this time, but would like to increase our capacity and effectiveness because there are many more pets we are unable to help due to a lack of funding and we are the only option for homeless animals in Pendleton. We have our 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status, so all donations are tax deductible and most of the funds go to pay veterinary bills and a small amount is used to pay basic costs like phone, supplies, kennels & crates. As of 04/30/14, PAWS has rescued 40 pets in just 2014! Please help us rescue more with your donation!

WE LOVE RESCUES!!

Rescues, our PAWS policy is to vaccinate the pet the day they come into our care and most of our pets are housed in foster homes to protect their health and to provide them with individual attention and guidance to help them on their way to becoming more adoptable pets. Please see our adoptable pet list and THANK YOU! ******************************************************************************************************************************************************

Lost a pet?

If you have searched our pet page for your lost pet and have still not found your missing pet, you may want to consider calling us at: 358-3644 and also calling the Pendleton County Sheriff's Department at : 358-2214. Posting notices with a picture of the pet in local businesses and visible areas can help to find a lost pet. Please also fill out the lost pet report on Lost and Pound, you can access their website at this web address: http://www.lostandpound.com/ Also, please contact FindToto.com This is an excellent pet finding service that will call homes in the area where your pet was lost within minutes of receiving your info on your lost pet. 877-738-8686 or www.findtoto.com Please always keep some ID on your pets so if they become lost, they can be returned. Ask your vet to microchip your pet. Pets that have been microchipped can always find their way home, even if they lose their collar! AND, PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER! "Fixed" pets wander less! **********************************************************************************************************************************************

LOVE Pets?

But, due to your schedule/travel plans...can't make a long term commitment? Consider fostering a pet! PAWS provides full veterinary care, crates/carriers, collars, leashes, donated food (when available) and an outdoor kennel if you would like one! All you need to do is provide TLC and care for the pet while he/she is in your care as you would your own pet. We can work around your travel plans! Please open your heart and home to one of these wonderful animals. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed. We help you decide which animal will fit well within your home and family. The foster parents' knowledge of the pet's needs plays a large part in the adoptability of a pet. IF YOU CANNOT FOSTER, we have other volunteer opportunities that are equally challenging and rewarding. We can find something to fit your schedule! Fundraising, Helping at the Flea Market & Basket Bingo, Photography, Transporting, etc. Please email or call! ***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

ADOPTION:

Veterinary care is provided to PAWS pets as appropriate. All pets are vaccinated (as appropriate for their ages), spayed or neutered and tested for feline leukemia and AIDs (cats) and heartworm (dogs), if old enough. ADOPTION FEES Dog/pup $135. Purebred dog/pup $200 Cat/kitten $100. Purebred cat/kitten $200 These adoption fees only partially defray the cost of readying a pet for adoption. Worming and flea treatment ($5 - $25) Rabies and distemper vaccines ($12 - $22 each) (kittens and pups require multiple vaccines...) Leukemia/AIDs testing - cats and kittens ($20 - $30) HW Testing - dogs 6 mos and over ($20 - $25) Spay or neuter ($40 - $100) Supplies (food, litter, toys and medication) It is our goal to make the best possible match between adopter and pet. Accordingly, we may suggest that you adopt a pet other than the one for which you are applying, depending upon your lifestyle and household. While it is our intent to find permanent loving homes for our pets, we understand that sometimes a placement does not work out or circumstances change. A pet rescued by PAWS is a pet rescued for life. We will always accept back any pet previously adopted out through our program. You will be entitled to a refund of the adoption fee if we are notified within 30 days of the adoption that you are having problems. In the case, however, that the adoption does not work out, as indicated in the Adoption Contract, you are required to return the pet to PAWS. You may not give the pet away or take it to an animal shelter. For any reason, at any point in the future, PAWS will always accept back any pet previously adopted out through our adoption program. Call us at 304-358-3644 and indicate that you need to return a PAWS pet. Do not call Petco or Tractor Supply, as they have no authority to accept a pet on behalf of PAWS.
